Subtle refreshments are evident, but the offroad capability remains.

Some things never change, and Jeep owners usually rejoice about such a concept. Reluctantly staying body-on-frame, the new JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be sure to keep Jeep enthusiasts happy, but the new model does have some interesting new styling elements.

The images in this article are from an earlier leak in October. Click here to check out what we’re pretty sure is the JL Jeep Wrangler’s final design draft.

Flat doors are no longer a thing. The newest leak shows a new stepped line just below the windows that’s reminiscent of a water canister. The front grille is also sporting a new character line just above the signature seven slats’ halfway point.

While not exactly groundbreaking, the front bumper also gets a redesign with the fog lights now pushed toward the outer edges, which was seen on an early testing prototype.

According to these pictures from a Motor Trend report, there also appears to be a new fender vent just aft of the front wheel. In a nutshell, though, no one will mistake the JL for anything else but a Wrangler. You can now breathe a sigh of relief.

Two forms of gasoline engine will likely be offered: the familiar Pentastar V6, and a turbocharged four-cylinder called the Hurricane. Jeep may also offer a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. We don’t expect any wild changes to the transmissions currently on offer. We’re still waiting for this news to be officially confirmed, but we expect specs and more details toward the end of 2017.

This refresh comes just months after FCA’s announcement of production facility retooling, and based on what we see, we like the results so far. Of course, if you like taking the doors off your Jeep, the 2018 Wrangler Unlimited will have you thrilled.
