Willys Dragster Rips 11-second Passes & Massive Wheelies

By -

If you want to turn heads at the track and go fast in style, it’s hard to beat this vintage Willys turned dragster.

For the most part, drag racing is all about going from point A to point B is as little time as possible. But on the other hand, doing it in style is even better. That’s why some folks spend loads of money making their dragsters look as nice as possible. Others prefer to build their rocket rides from what you might call less than conventional choices. And you won’t find many less conventional than a vintage Willys Jeep.

The laws of physics say that boxy vehicles aren’t supposed to be fast. And that something built to tackle off-road trails with four-wheel drive can’t pop massive wheelies. But this classic 1957 Willys could obviously care less about those preconceived notions. Little weight, a short wheelbase, and a punched out 355 cubic-inch Chevy V8 are more than enough to propel it down the quarter-mile in just 11 seconds. As you can clearly see in this wild video from Youtuber victoryredcolorado.

But perhaps the best thing about this wild Willys is that it’s currently up for grabs over on eBay. And truthfully, we can’t think of a better way to drop $10,000. The seller has actually owned this Willys since he was in high school, way back in 1982. Over the last few decades, he’s transformed it into a street-legal fun machine. An easier feat since it was two-wheel drive from the get-go.

The drivetrain on this old Jeep is pretty much what you’d see in your typical straight-line performer. Aside from the built small block Chevy, you’ve got a TH350 automatic transmission, 3.73-geared rear end, and traction bars. With a set of massive slicks out back, it obviously has no problem hooking at the track. And without a doubt, it’ll turn more heads at the track than your average Mustang or Camaro.
