Thanks, the reason why I asked is: I may be moving to Kona from the North East (central NY) and I have been wondering if I should bring my hard top and sell it in Hawaii or sell it here in NY or keep it and use it in Hawaii (north Kona)?

You might wanna sell it there IMO if you can get a decent price for it. I've seen a few here on craigslist for awhile. A bikini or soft top is perfect for Hawaii. My .02

I use the HardTop and when weather permits, I run doorless and put on the SpiderWeb Top Shade....

They only had hard tops for rental last time I went. Driving a Jeep in Hawaii was when I definitively decided I needed to have a Jeep. I had no experience driving off road at the time. I visited Kauai 's Polihale State Park. The signs read "4WD" vehicles only, and I thought, "no problem in this jeep" (mind you its a rental with stock tires.) I managed the trails there but get it stuck in the sand on the beach. It killed the mood with the wife. Some local comes in off the surf and tells me to air down to 10 psi. I left the beach with a bruised ego but motivation to get a Jeep, customize, and know how to drive it well. And I always carry compressor now.

I'm from Kauai originally, polihale is great for riding in the sand. Probably the best stretch of unmolested beach on the island. Were u in a red Jeep? Think I remember you lol

I think most the rentals were red. Oct of 2010. You weren't the guy who helped me out we're you? If I could take up surfing upon coming home to Wisconsin I would have as well.
