Heading to Oahu in July, currently have a 2008 unlimited Rubicon 3.5 AEV lift, sitting on 35 12.50 tires with 1.5 inch wheel spacers on stock rims. 8000lbs winch installed in stock bumper. I Lived there before in mid 90's. But drove a 69 Ford Falcon which was easy to pass yearly inspection. How hard is the Recon inspection I keep hearing about.

Is this forum dead, or is everyone taking a break.

I was there in 05 when they started the recon inspections. I had a 97 F-350 with an 8" lift and 38s. Needless to say that was the biggest pain. There is only one place on the island to get it inspected and appointments were months out which was a pain in and of itself due to re-deployment/pcs time frames. You shouldn't have a problem though with getting a recon sticker for your Jeep. The biggest problem I had was the tire tread sticking out past the fender. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I should make the cut on rubber past fenders if I remove the 1.5 wheel spacers. Just have to remember no tight turns. Thanks again

Aloha! Obtaining a RECON Permit/Sticker is not a difficult as other make it sound. Of course it depends on what kind of modifications you have on your rig. Biggest thing is to ensure that your tires do not stick out past your fenders (at time of inspection) and that you have mudflaps. Other than that you will be fine. Check out other forums on the island and you can easily find more information.

Thanks for the info. Should be alright once I remove wheel spacers on front. As for mud flaps, I will see what the locals use and go from there.

Hawaii Law is either mud flaps or fenders. Most of the small auto shops on the Big Island let them slide.

Not to highjack but....

The Marines have it so nice on Oahu. The view from Camp Smith over looking Pearl is amazing and when you come out of the tunnel on H-3 the view of Kaneohe is amazing!

Oahu has to be one of the best places to be stationed. My dad is stationed there and I love visiting him. We took a few springbreak trips there during college and had a blast. He works at Camp Smith.
