I tried to enlist in high school as a 13-B in the Army, but they denied me the day before I was supposed to go to basic training. Something about the titanium hadware in my knee from an ACL reconstruction.

I have contemplated it now as an MD, but will likely go Guard instead. It just seems like it would work out better.

USAF AD 8 1/2 yrs, 0-3, medic (gas passer), spent a little over 9 months in a little place called Balad, Iraq. I call it my trauma fellowship. Never spent my TDY money, so put it towards my new bank note. Getting out in 2 years (better for family- wife/4 kids/2 dogs). My attitude---if others are willing to leave the wire, I should at least go over there and take care of them.

Plain old buck sergeant in the national guard. Got home in December after 18 months of supporting Noble Eagle. It was a gravy assignment, but my wife caught it being home with the 3 rugrats. Don't see many part timers like myself checking in. I guess there is some sort of stigma with being "just in the national guard." I appreciate all you full timers and the guys who have done their time and got out. I got to meet a lot of different folks from the different branches who served in the different conflicts/wars or whatever you want to call them, and have a newfound respect for their sacrifices. Thanks guys!

No stigma from this ex-fulltimer. Anyone willing to stand up and help hold the line is fine in my book, "part time" or not.
