Well we call them a Helmsmen, usually a E-3 on a larger cutter. Smaller boats they are called coxswain and usually consist of an E-4/E-5 knows as BM's Bad Mother$*(#ers (Boatswainmate). Hope that helps.

So if I wanted to do that, I'd have to sign up as a BM? More specifically I should ask, how does one become that guy? (and I don't mean in reference to "That guy" in a bad sense haha)
