Default battery issue - PWC

So i had some bad cavitation... replaced the impellar and housing and the "slipping transmission" feeling has been corrected unless i try to go from a stop to a full throttle

HOWEVER... after about 1.5 minutes of cruising at approx. 40 MPH, it just shuts off.

i thought my battery cable came loose and when i reached down to check, I got a lovely 3rd degree burn off the positive terminal. negative was luke warm, but positive had to be several hundred degrees.

what could cause the battery to do this??? bad battery? overcharged? it is a standard acid based battery.

Was the post tight?

Battery or alternator is my first thought. The battery should supply a LOT of current before getting hot - if the post connection is tight.

Battery is cheap and easy and you can even borrow from someone else to try it out first - or even borrow it from your Jeep.

Is it one of those screw terminals or an automotive style clamp on thing?

the jet ski takes the smaller battery... the ones you fill up with acid and then charge. My thumb hurts... and i have a flat head screw and bolt pattern burned into the skin. lol
