Default A Long Long Time Ago....

When I moved to Alaska 25 years ago, this was the first king I ever landed. It was caught on the Kenai River and weighed 60 lbs. That day I had 3 other fish on that I couldn't even lift off the bottom before the line would break. I never even saw those fish......they were like submarines and would just stay on the bottom and swim upstream like nothing was wrong. Finally after figuring out my line was too old, I changed it out and managed to boat this one. Altho I've caught many, many Kings since then, I still haven't caught one bigger than this.
IT WAS A GREAT DAY, ON A GREAT RIVER WITH A GREAT FISH....!!!!

Thanks guys.....it was a day to remember no doubt.

BTW....I was thinking that this might be a good thread for all to post some great pics of memerable fish from days gone by......wadya think?

It doesn't have to be a big fish, just one that had a special meaning attached to it. Because, and I don't have a pic of it, but one of the best, and most proud of, fish I can ever remember catching as a kid was a 13" German brown.

So dig out all those boxes burried in the closet, and get to postin'....!!!

Let's Have Fun...!!!

Here is a picture of my daughter and her husband with the stringer of Cutthroat Trout they caught. They are soooo delicious cooked over a campfire fresh from icy mountain streams. Yummy!

GG.......Nice batch of trout no doubt. And I agree.....sure are good eat'n, especially out there in the woods.
As a kid we used to walk in to an alpine lake above Lake Tahoe to fish for cut throats. To get there we would walk ontop of about 10 feet of snow, and the lake would still be frozen except around these large rocks that would warm up from the sun. There was just enough room between the rock and the ice to pull up the fish. All we had to do was send down a little lure and jig off the bottom. Those fish would be so hungry after a long winter that we would catch tons of them. Also....the weather would usually be so nice that we would all get sunburned because of the reflection off the snow and ice everywhere.
Great memories for sure....
PS....On one trip, on the way out we were tired and decided to spend the night in the woods before we made it out to the truck. We woke up and started to pack up to leave and noticed that all our fish were gone. Either a racoon or a bear had a lot of good eats...!!!

Default 50 lb.'er...!!!

A couple years ago....We had fished all day and had only caught a few chickens (small halibut), and loads of dog sharks. It seemed everytime we would anchor up we'd catch a couple chickens and then the sharks would move in. So we'd move. This went on all day, and the weather was lousy to boot. It was getting late, and we all had just about had enough and decided to leave. I was hauling in the anchor and everybody pulled in their lines, but I told my boy, Anthony, to leave his line out as it would take me a few minutes to get the anchor in. All of a sudden I hear this..."Dad, Dad...!!!" I look over and see his pole bent over in his little arms with the tip headed down into the water. Luckily his drag was set right or I doubt he'd have been able to hold onto it. He did a great job fighting it, and we got it onboard. Thank God for that 50 lb. fish that turned a pretty lousy day into one for the memory books!!!
