Default Jeep camping

I did some camping in my Willy's Unlimited this past weekend and had a awesome relaxing time. Found a couple ways to improve my setup but overall it worked great. And yes I removed all trash leaving only my tracks and cold wet ashes.

Damn fine camp spot, nice and level with trees, any water around ? streams, lakes ? Your camping alone, only one steak. You don't sleep ? or maybe just sleep on the ground ? Our camp's maybe a little more traditional

Just me this time, and there is a water source around 600-700 yards away but I brought 7 gallons with me. As for sleeping I slept in the back of my Jeep with Skeeter Beaters on the back windows. Next time I'm going to run some 550 cord under the tarp for better support.

I sleep in the back of the jeep quite often....either for overnight wheelin' trips or even longer overland type stuff. One of the best things I've done was build a trunk/platform in the back of my JKU. Part of that platform flips forward over the rear seats once they are folded down, and creates a completely flat surface to sleep on.....covering up that big gap we have once the seats are folded down. I'm 6' and stretch completely out back there. Two people can sleep back there comfortably.

I'd also add that it's extremely nice to have a place to keep all my tools as well. Platform is raised 5" from the floor and allows me to carry every tool i need in my "trunk". I have a lock so I also feel safe leaving the jeep parked somewhere in town with no roof or doors while my tools are in there.

I can snap a pic of mine tonight. Generally follows this idea -

Under-Floor Storage - JeepForum.com

I made mine out of 2x6 and plywood. 6" was a little tall for me, so I shaved 1" off it so mine is really 5" tall. I just used the exiting tie down bolts too so I didn't have to drill any holes in the pan.

These aren't great pics as it was dark, and hard to get light in with the top on. It's a little empty right now, but that sucker gets packed full for a wheelin trip. I maybe have $60 in that.....for Plywood, some 2x6, couple L brackets, couple hinges, and some material from joann fabric to pretty it up. When my quadratec rear mat is over it, you can't even tell it's there really. I have a padlock on it just for some extra security when it's full, but even with the top or doors off, that tailgate won't unlock without the fob, and you can't open the top of the trunk unless the tailgate is opened all the way. When I sleep in it, I do put the front passenger seat all the way forward, which allows the rear headrest to flip forward as well. I roll out a 4" egg crate foam I trimmed to shape and it's perfect.

That's awesome! Is this something you can take out and put back in fairly easy or do you just roll with it 24/7. Asking cause I have my son every other week

I roll like that 24/7. The only issue would be if you had a car seat and use the safety strap that comes up and over the seat, and then back down to the latch at the base. you could build it so it didn't back immediately up to the rear seats, leaving you room to get your hand there to latch a car seat, but you'd obviously have that bit of a gap. My rear mat is perfect to conceal it. That said, the hole thing is only held in by 4 L brackets that are bolted down to the stock tie down locations. Pull those 4 bolts and I suppose you might be able to wrangle the whole unit out.....I'd think. I've never tried. Said I had $60 in that....for the structure, probably another $25 for so for the fabric and glue to make it look nice. I'm sure this Texas cold spell will pass soon and my top will be back off. I'll snap a lot better pics and send them your way if you care.

I would love to use some 3/16" diamond plate for the top and part that flips over, but that would have really blown the budget.
