lol Good enough, just make sure you wheel with one of us that gets one! The clarity of these radios is insane. The Badlands Posse guys all have them and were capable of talking to their wives at home when we were up on Bald! Where else did they say they reached... I think Florida, Texas,...!
Who is in for the Jan 2nd test day?

um... what is it that you would consider to be studying? wouldnt reading facts be learning them and thus also be studying?
why is that relevant to this thread in the first place? lets stay on topic so we dont get this thread closed...
my dad is out, he's gonna study up though!

I remember the BL Posse having them up there, not that I wouldn't want to get one..I don't think i could ever pass a test with that many questions unless I had the answers RIGHT in front of me...
..I'll roll with you Ty...just make sure i get my CB fixed

I just wanted to clarify a couple things, not intending to offend.
None of the Ham licenses require you to learn morse code, that was dropped years ago. The technician test has 35 questions focusing on safety, operation, and rules. There are several places online to take a practice test, my favorite is www.hamtestonline.com. The General class test has 35 questions as well and the Extra class test has 50 questions. The General class test goes into more technical detail but gets you access to more bands. The Extra class test is mostly technical questions sure to make you sweat, at least it did for me. If you go test for Technician, you might as well try for General as well since the $15 covers all the tests you take in that sitting, can't take the same test twice though.
Everyone interested in radio or just having another form of comms other than CB should give it a try. Technician is not that difficult, my 10 year old got his license on the first try.

ouch!
lol I failed my first try!So i didn't take the test. We snuck out to AZ and visited my sister as she is a week away from her due date and we thought maybe showing up unexpectedly would cause the baby to come early! No luck though...so now we're gonna have to wait a bit longer...hopefully soon!

I think it's time to rethink this in prep for next years wheeling season. My father in law is a old school HAM user. I think HAM is far superior to CB. For me it would be a safety thing, as I wheel alone sometimes. So who would be interested in attempting the test? Then getting a radio?
