Thumbs up Hungry Valley - Meet & Greet and BBQ - 01.12.13

Hungry Valley SVRA, which is near Gorman, California, is the second largest OHV area in Cali. It has over 150 miles of off-road trails. But, better yet, it has an awesome off-road practice area that has runs from very mild to wild. If you have never had your Jeep out on a trail, this is a great place to test your skills without the worry of being stuck miles from help. If you have a highly-modified rig, you can also be challenged.

We will have a meet & greet and BBQ on Saturday, January 12th, and everyone is welcome. From stock rigs to highly modified, everyone will have fun. You can just watch, or participate - it is up to you. Vince and I will be providing hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone who wants to join us, but it would be great if others can bring some side dishes like potato salad, chips, etc. Please bring your own beverages.

This will be a very family-friendly get-to-gether, so please bring the whole family. Please let us know how many people will be coming in your rig so we know how many mouths we need to feed!

Time:
We plan to get there at 11:00 a.m. and staying until around 3:00 p.m.; but feel free to come any time you like.

Facilities:
Yes, there are bathrooms! There are also sheltered areas, and we will be bringing BBQ grilles. There are some picnic tables, but they are limited, so you should probably bring your own chairs.

Directions:
In Gorman, 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 55 miles south of Bakersfield.

Traveling North on Interstate 5, exit at Smokey Bear Road. At the bottom of the off ramp take a left at the stop sign traveling under the freeway. At the next stop sign, make a left on Pyramid Lake Road and an immediate right onto Hungry Valley Road which is dirt. You will see a brown sign for Hungry Valley SVRA.

Traveling South on Interstate 5, take the Gorman Exit. Turn right at the bottom of the off ramp, then another right onto Peace Valley Road. The entrance to the park is one mile north on Peace Valley Road.

We will be meeting at the Aliklik Campground and picnic area, which is located at these gps coordinates: 34.723035,-118.863503

Cost: Nothing to join us and eat, but the SVRA charges $5 per vehicle to get in.

Let us know if you want to join us! More details coming soon.

Hey Cali,
Do you guys have any plans to have a group hit Miller Jeep trail, although I'm only 45 minutes from Gorman I've yet to do Miller. I might see if I can get some guys from the Bako area to head up Miller. I would like to get some folks who have done it an know it to lead us through. From what I understand it's not too difficult but I think it's fairly long.

It would be great to have you Bako guys come down, and Miller is a fun trail, but unfortunately, it is closed for the Winter. It usually opens up in the Spring - April to May - after the snow melts off. But, if you've never played around in the Hungry Valley practice area, you will have a challenging and fun time. Hope you can make it...

Is anyone heading down to this? The rain should make the dirt much nicer than the normal dust cloud you get out on the trail?

Here is a little incentive:

Just wanted to let everyone who is coming to the Hungry Valley - Meet & Greet and BBQ know that HigherGround Fab will be there to help cook burgers and dogs, and we will be bringing up some HGFab stickers if anyone wants them...But, more importantly, we will be doing a drawing to give away a brand new 20" Rigid Industries E-Series LED Light Bar (that costs a bunch of money!):

HOWEVER; in order to win, you MUST first like our HGFab FaceBook page (link below, and here: www.facebook.com/HigherGroundFab ), and then you MUST show up for the run, have a great time and be friendly to other Jeepers , and fill out a card for the drawing that we will have out there. (Yeah, yeah, no purchase necessary, and all that legal mumbo-jumbo!)
