I thought this was fixed. Where does the transmission vent tube lead to? The exhaust manifold?

Nothing was fixed, nothing at all. They program the computer to chime when the transmission is overheating so you know to stop and let it cool off before it catches on fire.

This was caused by debris under the undercarriage. not by a overheated tranny!!

I really dont see the big deal, yes its dangerous but the article states that they where trying to pull out a stuck truck. Of course the transmission could boil over. They make it seem like this will only happen to jeeps. You rag on any slush box hard enough and itll boil over, and tranny fluid ignites fairly easily so all it has to do is land on something hot. As far as mud and grass starting the fire, it is possible, my bronco had a clump of mud and grass build up around the muffler, but luckily it just fell off as a chunk of sparking smoldering grass on the road. lol

I had the same thing happen to me in my second Jeep, a 98 TJ. I was driving down some trails in the Black Hills between Custer SD & Newcastle WY that tall crested wheat grass grown up in the middle. The heads where breaking off and collecting on my tranny skid plate. I did not realize what was going on until we started smelling smoke. When I stopped the fire really flared up. The crested wheat grass heads had jammed up all around the cat converter, not good! That was the day I learned to all ways have a fire ext. in the Jeep. There I was lying on the ground under my jeep pulling flaming grass out of my skid plate. Burned though my pair of work gloves and lost some arm hair but saved the Jeep. Always be careful when driving though tall grass for extended periods of time, anything like that jammed against you cat converter will burn.
