Alternative to Block Heater
Has anyone heard of installing a Espar or Webasto coolant heater into something like our JK's?
I've driven military vehicles that have something very similar installed. Even when the temperature hits -40, you flip the switch on the coolant heater and then go for coffee. When you come back the engine and cab are all warmed up and the vehicle is ready to be started.
I think this would be useful mod, albeit kind of an expensive one, considering the number of actual days that it would get used.

the block heater keeps the engine pretty warm
would you be doing this to keep from plugging in over night?
I have used the block heater once or twice now found that it did its job when i went out to start the jeep -22 and the engine temp was +22 had to check that the scan gauge was correct incoming air temp -22 cwt was 22

my cab warmed up instantly with the block heater on on i started it, instead of waiting 10 minutes to get heat.
the coolant heater would actually pump the coolant though out the block as well as the rad as well as the heater core
the block heater would be more of just heating it up and allowing convection heat transfer to happen through out the fluid.

For the actual cost I don't think anything can beat the block heater, very old tech, that does the trick.
I might be getting old and (I know I'm gonna regret this) soft... any time the outside temp drops to -10 or lower I always plug the Block Heater in... It's so much easier on me and the JK when starting it 1st thing in the morning. The only down side is the extension cord, but hey get one of those spring loaded retractors and everything is great.

i could put it on a timer but that would be like setting the clock on a vcr or microwave why bother.
I like my block heater just fine and for the cost comparison the block heater will be the way that it stays.
I was talking about these heaters with an EME Sgt a couple of weeks ago and I checked out their respective websites and saw that you could install them into passengers vehicles, but given the price I would need a pretty big incentive to install one into my JK. I was just curious if anyone had heard of installing one before.

i know crappy tire has a cheap version of what ur talkin about but it isn't so complex
pump in line on the heater hose doesn't power the heater fan
i recall an electric element blower heater when we lived in ottawa, must have been when electricity was cheap it went in the cab and blew heated air using 120v

The Webasto works with the remote control, so you can turn it on from half a mile away. Heater is 5 times (5kw) efficient than any block heater, and heats the interior also. And you do not need to plug to power source..
I am going to insttall it my self, it should be quite ok. Only worries I have is how to get fuel suply for the heater. I need to go to fuel tank or cut the hose from somewhere - haven´t figure it out yet..
In Finland many passanger cars have weabsto or eber, because we have almost half a year morning temepratures near zero c...
