Northridge4x4....having it delivered to a friends in Buffalo.

Hey Jake, how happy are you with your OME kit? Did you get the HD springs?? I'm leaning towards them and would love your input.

I suppose I could get it installed down there, but then I still have to ride back with my old shocks and springs...that's going to look painfully obvious coming across the border. LOL

Very, yes, and it rides better than stock on the road. You've seen the performance of my setup on the trail.

I would highly recommend it. The only disadvantage is that it is on the expensive side compared to other lifts.

Keeping them for posterity? Arrange to sell 'em to someone in the US and either have them picked up or shipped after your lift is installed. It requires a bit of coordination but you can subsize the cost of your lift that way and avoid CRA nonsense.

What are you doing for tires?

Very true. But not sales tax (GST/PST) exempt.

Also, OME is made is Australia, as far as I know (although I didn't get charged duty on it when I brought it in).

One other thing to consider, if you come back through a province in which you don't live (suppose you enter in QC, but you live in ON), you'll only get charged GST.

It doesn't help you if you ship to Buffalo (as you'll spend more in gas driving than you do in savings), but something to think about if you haven't placed your order yet.

also if you modify an item or vehicle and make it better than when you left the country when you return that item is considered a different item
so say you went across the border and you installed bushwacher fender flairs while you were down there and they bring up the previous image of your jeep crossing the border and they see that it looks different. be prepared to pay GST and PST on your entire jeeps value.

also any gift or prizes require that you claim and pay taxes on.

basically anything you bring back requires taxes to be paid

Yeah, your results can definitely vary depending on what you're buying.

The OME lift that Capt. Hook is thinking about is half the price from Northridge than it is from any shop in SW Ontario, though (I priced it 3 months ago myself). Plus, Northridge likely has it in stock, whereas most places in SW Ontario would have to order it with a 3 week wait... and wraithy's experiences lately show that 3 weeks can become 8 weeks very quickly.

I found that some things like tires are usually same or only 5-10% more here in Canada. The shop I bought my Mickey's from was price competitive to most of the US places, even the online shops. Mopar parts are typically cheaper in the States.

The nice thing about places like Quadratec are that you always get their best price without haggling. It's a bonus to be able to haggle a price down, but it's not very convenient for the consumer.

A Canadian shop that functions like Quadratec will be coming soon....

Well I'm planning on buying full skids as well, I've compaired the prices and it's much cheaper making a quick trip to the good 'ol USA.

I've been patiently waiting, but can't get a timeline...otherwise I'd be willing to wait. I'd much rather give my money to...a canadian vendor
