Default DIY grill inserts, what did you use?

Been on the lookout for a good metal mesh to use and haven't been able to find one that I think would look good they are too thick or too thin. Mostly looked in hardware stores and princess auto. Any somewhat local places come to mind?

I was there yesterday looking for that exact thing from a wright up I saw on here.
Maybe they just didn't have any. I try another hd and see if I have any luck.
Thanks!

Yep Home Depot for sure - I did the mod over a year ago and was thankful I did this past weekend. I travelled from Oakville to Sudbury and the amount of bugs that were all over the mesh were significant. I would have hated all these getting onto the rad directly. Not to mention the rocks that were being flipped up by the trucks.
No need for metal mesh, the gutter guard works great and is low cost!

I used smaller steel expanded metal gravel guarded it then bent it to fit and there's two small tabs that held the bottom perfect then just zip tied it. I got mine from the shop I work at any steel shop should have some if that's what u have in mind

Thats why i want it, rocks on the 401 are beating the crap out of my rad fins. Went to another hd today and no luck with the gutter guard. They now have some plastic stuff and something approved by mike homes with small holes drilled in it. No good for air flow while on a trail at low speed. I ended up getting some thick metal mesh for a screen door from tsc. Witch i didnt really like, then going to a meral fabrication shop and picking up some 1/2 inch mesh. Wanted 1/4 inch but I'll see how it turns out. If it sucks I'll sart over. I'll post Picts if it is worth keeping!

Used the gutter guard material from Home Depot with the adhesive tie pads I found at Princess Auto. Cleaned grill back well and applied them - none have come off in over a year.

The Home Depot Gutter Guard is very easy to mold. I think mine turned out very well, I also painted & clear coated the Galvanized Metal to prevent future Oxidation. I used JB Weld to keep the job simple and a solid installation.

I have a set I will sell for for $25. I purchased them one month ago for $50. They are black and in excellent condition. The only reason I will sell is because I traded my Jeep for a new color that doesn't work quite as well with the grille mesh

Thanks for the tips everyone! I am over half way done the fab and install. Just made a maul on the band saw out of a chunk of hard wood as a template to shape the thicker metal to the profile of the grill. Kinda like a mould with a positive and negative. Paint is drying now. I had that plastic gutter guard in my hand, that would have been way easier to work with I just wasn't sure about it's strength. Always doing things the hard way! Was going to use outdoor calking to hold it on but you say jb weld. I may have to grab some. All in all it's a good reason to hang out in the garage with a buddy and have some beers on the weekend!
