Figured out my noisey Tranny issue
I've noticed in the last little while that my tranny has been a bit noisey. Started getting a little noisier when it gets really cold. Never really thought too much about it. I remember taking Waynes Jeep for a ride after lifting it a few months ago that it shifted and sounded smoother than mine, but again, I paid it no mind. It wasn't until I went to grab some lunch with my buddy from work that changed things. We were driving along and he commented that my tranny was noisey, and then I really started listening. Everything looked nomal and the oil was clean. You could here it in neutral and when the clutch was pressed it went away, like marbles rolling around. Going down the road you could really hear the tranny.
I debated taking it to the dealer for warranty, but didn't feel like getting the runaround. I changed the oil to a synthetic ATF spec'd for mercedes and other high end transmissions and it was only marginally better, although it shifted ALOT smoother.
Finally, I found a post on another forum where a guy said that his inner boot had come loose. I put 2+2 together and figured that this must be the problem. Abut 8 or 9 months ago I had the clutch and throw out bearing TSB done. I realize now that it started around that time. When the guy pulled the tranny, he must have left the boot off,or not installed it correctly.
Tonight I removed the shifter knob and upper boot and sure enough, the inner boot is just flopping around down there, not clipped in. I has four clips to hold it down and one of mine is broken off. It also has a rip in it. To see if it would cure my problem, I duct taped the rip and installed the boot properly. The difference is like night and day. I can hardly hear the trans now in neutral and I barely hear it while driving. the guy at the dealer cut some corners to get my tranny out and didn't properly disconnect everything up top before lowering the tranny. It happens like this because those guys are on a flat rate system and they are already losing money doing a warranty job, because their hours are cut down. I used to work at a dealership, that's how I know this. It's hard for me to blame him, because the system is designed that way. Sad.
Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to the dealer to order a new inner boot. Just thought I'd write this to give anyone else with a noisey tranny an Idea what to look for. Just may be an easy fix like mine.
Cheers

Ordered the inner boot today for about $15. Not bad, could have been worse.
I think that there is a rule on these forums about advertising or such, no more softdrink adds plz, at certainly not for Vanilla coke, wtf...

I myself didn't notice anything wrong with the pictures. Until I look really closely and realized that it was a bottle of Vanilla Coke. I can only handle so much freaky, and then I really have to draw the line.
