Default Hands Free CB

http://www.landlinemag.com/todays_ne.../031010-04.htm

"According to [Ontario Ministry of Transportation Spokesman Bob]
Nichols, use of the CB must be hands-free starting Jan. 1, 2013. That
means a driver will not be allowed to hold on to the hand mike of a
two-way radio or CB while driving."

"Nichols says drivers should clip the hand mike to a belt, shirt pocket
or lapel to keep hands free to drive and shift. Pushing the button to
talk on a CB will be OK."

"'The end of the three-year phase-out will not result in a prohibition
on the use of two-way radios,' Nichols told Land Line Magazine by e-mail."

"'Section 14 of Regulation 366/09 under the Highway Traffic Act allows a
driver to push and hold the button on a two-way radio, including mobile
and CB radios, to talk and release it to listen, repeating as often as
necessary to conduct a conversation. The microphone must be secured in
or mounted to the vehicle and within easy reach of the driver. It could
be clipped to the driver’s belt or attached to his/her clothing.'"

Serously? Look up the true "nanny state".....the UK. They have A LOT more governmental shit going on.

All this means to us is you need to be more careful when you are using your cb on the way to the trails. I am pretty sure on the trails there isn't going to be any opp looking to give out tickets. Well except for the one on here that wheels with us. And he is a dick anyway

Just because it's worse in the UK doesn't make it right here. The damn Liberals will legislate washing your hands and wiping your butt soon enough.

That's freakin insane... Is there a lot of dumb sh!t like that in Canada? Please excuse my ignorance, I've never been there. Looks beautiful though. Anyway... Things are starting to look like that down here in the states as well. They take more and more everyday. At least you have good beer from what I understand. How long before they tell you that you can't hold it while you drink it.

But In the same breath, if the legislation keeps cell phones out of drivers hands while driving, I am all for it. If they let us keep the cb but no cells the cell users would whine.

I just don't think it really is that big of a deal. Not to mention it isn't for 3 more years. By then the tech out should be great for hands free, and being a manual driver I would love that solution. Shifting with a cb in hand is a pain in the ass.

Not really. But then again we dont have to pay for health care and if you are caught with weed, it is a ticket. Not a life sentence. It isn't like our rights and freedoms are being trampled. Just a law towards morons doing anythng but driving, when driving. I know anytime I have used the cb on the highways it was more for messing around than anything really important. On the trail it is a different story obviously.
I am pretty sure there are a few states coming out with hands free laws. Having spent the last week here in the states I know they should have a no cell policy. Lol.

It is the same law as the cell phone legislation. It specifically prohibits hand held communcation and entertainment devcies. They have given an extremely long phase in time for CBs however. As well as long as the mic is fixed it wont be an issue. I would immagine that the zipcord, hanger style mics may even be sufficient. Any item that is mounted, using a speaker will be fine, ie mounted GPS, hands free phone or the CB (some of which now are bluetooth)

The aim of the law is to deal with the brain dead pimply faced maggots driving down the road talking, texting and playing PSP while navigating our roadways. It is a sad statement that there exists at least ten percent of the population that is so stupid we need to legislate common sense.

I am all for individual choice and freedoms, but when my tax dollars are paying for their free health care, then I am all for a few non intrusive laws that ensure the idiots are at least required to conduct themselves with some a bit of common sense.

Next time we go out I say we hit channel 9 and see if we can bait some OPP, send them on a scavenger hunt with a promise of free coffee.
