The water shouldn't scare anyone. There were many water crossings that day that were no problem. That guy in the TJ made a conscious decision to go in there despite advice to the contrary. In fact, he had an almost "suicidal" attitude about it. I think people on shore were too amused seeing him go in to realize this really affected all of us. I've actually got it on tape, about 10 feet in I asked "Well, who's going to go in to get him if he gets stuck?" But it was too late.

I understand the more experienced guys aren't trail police. But the rest of us aren't the fire department either. Next time it should be made crystal clear. "You will not make it. If you insist on trying, you're going to have to swim back to us. We'll get you home, but we can't recover your truck."

I still say you should NEVER drive backwards on a winch line. It doesn't matter how careful you are, you are shocking the system. Winch cables have NO stretch at all, any difference in speed really hammers everything. In fact, the shorter the cable paid out is, the worse the situation.

Sorry Dave, I've got to take the blame for that one, by the time I finally reached down far enough under the water to connect your winch cable, I had forgotten that I had been pulling the line out as I went.
I tried to stop you as soon as I saw what was happening but that probably cost an additional 5 to 10 feet which didnt help.

Yeah, let me know if Tod can't get that CB working, I do have an old one here for you.

Well at least it looks liek I was enjoying the Rodeo with that picture of me on your hood.

Yes someone had just mentioned something about Todd and a Rodeo sign, I wasn't actually all that happy about the potential of getting face planted into the water if you stopped suddenly, LOL

Cheers

Ya, tore Daves CB apart yesterday in the shop....gave it a good cleaning, the corrosion wasnt too bad. Output is close to 3 W on the spectrum analyzer with good solid waveforms....Only real issue I ran into was the modulation on the carrier. Hard to tell if it was the MacGyver cable we made up (we dont have any civvie connectors here) so once we hook it back into Daves rig we will do a test.

Nice to see that little Cobra be revived though. I am pretty sure if it was a 75 it would not have been so easy to fix. (also helps that I am in a Rad shop now too lol)

I got my jeep the day before you guys went on this run. I remember reading this thread thinking you guys were hardcore. Your right lots of lessons to be learned there and it could have been a lot worse for sure.
