Default Winter tires or?

I am deciding wether to buy winters for the wifes JK or ride it out in the Mtz we have on already. Went up to Huntsville for the night on Friday and the snow was deep, they just got about a foot over night. And I'd rate them 5/10 in snowy conditions. I'm sure here won't get as bad but wondering what you guys do to get through the winter. I am also considering Goodyear Kevlars or Toyos M/T for a replacement of her Mtz. The Mtz just are too expensive to ride on. The always need a balancing, and the alignment hasn't been on point since we bought them. Let alone the barely 400 kms/tank we get out of em.
So my question is what do you ride on during the winter?
Thanks

A lot of people tend to like the Duratracs, I just put them on, and I think they do pretty well. Now I'm just waiting for the snow!

I've got BFG Snow Slalom tires on my Jeep for the winter. I hate the look of them. Mild tread with bulging sidewalls. I don't leave the road in the winter, though. They've been doing just fine on the highway and city streets. I only have them because I got the dealership to through in free winter tires when I bought my JK. When these wear out I'll look for a nice set of aggressive winter treads. I'm sure there's one out there somewhere. Possibly studded. I've been thinking of the Duratracs because of the great reviews they have, but I'd rather have a dedicated winter tire.

PS - I'm in northern BC so the winters can be harsh and I spend a lot of time on the Alaska Highway and some windy foothill roads.

I'm happy with the Duratracs. They have yet to fail me in any condition I've been faced with.

Oh and btw 400 clicks per tank is pretty damn good if you ask me. I'm averaging 250-300 kms p/tank at the most.

You have winter tires on your JK: pull the shifter to 4HI

Yeah I assumed is wasn't as bad on gas. I figure I'll throw the winters on she'll be fine. Until she starts driving.

I had Duratracs on my TJ and when I bought my JK, there was no question, just ordered Duratracs right away.

Great on snow or ice roads
Great on Rock,
Great on sand,
Great for being quiet on the highway, (for an all terrain/ mud terrain tire)
Good in mud,
I have never been a Goodyear fan, but I am real happy with these tires.

A pure Mud tire would do better in mud, but worse at EVERYTHING else.

I had to drive a stock Sahara JK the other day (Dealership loaner), and it caught me by surprise with our recent snow falls, what a comparison.

I was having a hard time understanding why everyone was having such difficulty getting around... I came to realize I was because of how well the Duratracs are working for me on my Rubicon.

Duratracks are snowflake rated. Legal as winter tires for Quebec... I'm in Manitoba, and they are talkiing about manditory snow tires here soon. These will comply with that requirement.

I bought mine through the dealership. 315/70/17 were not available under the 4 for 3 at tire stores, but are through the dealership I dealt at.

35'' Pro Comp All-Terrains on my JK all year long.

Here in Quebec, all vehicles must have winter tires on from Dec. 15 to March 15 - law was passed last year.

No, winter tires are not required by law in Quebec if you have "LT" on them untill 2014 (this the case for Rubicon, and about all big tires), but nevertheless, I have Blizak on mine, just great !!! I do 80 Km a day on highway and smaller roads, I really don't trust my summer Destination M/T on ice... no way !! But I do switch to 4HI as soon as there is something else than asphalt under the wheels just for the fun of pulling that lever on the floor... can't wait for trail season to come back
