OK, count me in. Told the wife to plan on making her famous cookies. 5 yr old already asking if he can drive and play in the water.

Now get this.....Got a phone call the other day from a friend up there on Roten Creek Rd. Her brother had died back in Dec. after a long battle with cancer. Anyway, his widow was trying to get in touch with me to see if I wanted to buy his jeep. I hardly ever saw him, so I didn't even know he had a jeep. Anyway, it is a 1985 CJ7, 3 speed auto, straight 6, 129000 miles, all original.....$3000.00. If the wife and I were not closing on another house June 10, I would probably just buy it to help them out. If any of you guys are interested and she still has it when we get together, we can go take a look at it. Or if you are interested before hand, just give me a call at 336-978-8558 and I will get you in touch with her. Anyway, look forward to meeting everyone.....Kent

My wife and I are VERY interested in the CJ7. We are currently looking at some on Craigslist from the 70s. I would love to see it.

We'll see you there. This is going to be awesome.

The Addison Inn is convenient and is located about 30 min. from us in North Wilkesboro on 421.

They offer decent rates, but accomodations are plain at best. The great part of the hotel is the location. It's located on 421 next to dozens of restaurants, retail stores, etc. So there are plenty of places to have dinner, breakfast, purchase supplies, etc. This is great for a single-night stay (Saturday night, for example).

If you want to make a long-weekend out of this excursion, there are cozier cabins located on the Parkway or in West Jefferson. Mountain View Lodge and Cabins is located about 2-3 miles away from Sheets Gap Rd on mile post 256, by the Northwest Trading Post. I haven't stayed there, but have heard good things and they look very nice.

You can stay anywhere in Jefferson, West Jefferson, Glendale Springs, North Wilkesboro or Millers Creek and be within 30 minutes of our cabin. Boone is a bit further away (about 40-45 min.).

Let me know if you need anything else. We're excited about this and will hopefully have a good group of folks. Once we get closer to the date, I'll take a final head count and we can ask some of you to bring stuff (sodas, chips, charcoal, etc.).

Since you are staying in West Jefferson, whatever you do, do not eat at Shatley Springs. Every time I go there, I tend to gain 5 lbs. Must be the all you can eat family style chicken, ham, veges and dessert. You must resist what ever you do.....god help you if you go for breakfast...probably gain 10 lbs and be absolutely useless the rest of the day.

I know the area fairly well, let me know if you have any questions...kent

Smokey Mountain BBQ has some good short ribs and great fried chicken! My daughter loves their fried chicken and loves their pig-themed decorations. There's a bunch of great places in the area - I've never been to Shatley Springs. Hmmm. I see a caravan to said establishment in our near future.

Once I have a final head count, I'll PM y'all our address and specific directions to our place. Looks like we may have about 10 folks with us and we may pick up a few stragglers.
