Apparently NPS didn't think this process through at all. Not sure if you read any of the comments but its a mess. The new rules are even saying you can't park the vehicles parallel to the ocean to block wind I am very happy that we are going down the 1st week in April and June this year. We will be getting our annual permit in April for sure!! It shouldn't be that bad I hope. Usually the 1st thing we do once we reach the stretch between Salvo and Avon is jump onto the beach not this year I don't see us staying north either we just love Hatteras Island and the NPS will not take that away from us.

In my opinion it is all a ploy. If you don't want people using the beach make it harder for them to get there. Typical govt reaction to the greenies.

Unfortunatly most people are saying they are not paying NPS nothing therefore they will eventually win This is what NPS wants they don't want people on the beaches. This is just going to hurt the locals more than anybody else. I don't see how Hatteras locals will be able to survive without us visitors

Let me add also you are no longer allowed to drive on the beach after 9 PM . The old rule was 10 which gave our family time to drive up on the beach and have a fire. This won't be happening this year I now see why so many families are not returning this year after reading the rules that were just released.

Is this the case for North 12 as well? I mean there are 4x4 only beach access houses up there. I assume that they are not going to make every person driving to their house get a permit? Maybe a house permit, but not for every car.

I find this rather annoying. How many years have people been driving on the beach? C.R.E.A.M

Just for South 12 for right now but its only a matter of time till they hit the northern OBX too. In my opinion its going to make the northern section a lot more crowded since many people are refusing to buy permits on top of all the damn closures too.

Did anyone else notice the differences between the seasonal areas and the year round areas?

The whole thing just sucks the more and more I read. The ramp that we always used (27) is no longer and they have created another one (25.5) which our luck will be closed because of the damn birds in June
