The dura tracs have the snowflake on them and I've seen a few jeeps with the km2s rolling around here. My buddy had a set of retreads so I don't think it's an issue.

Yup, it's just not the easiest thing to do. There are lots of off road parks throughout Germany, but it takes a road trip to get there, and driving the lifted Jeep on big knobby mudders on the Autobahn for couple hours is the biggest deterrent. The parks are also somewhat small in comparison to the US. Other options are strip mines and trash collection points for building materials, though you need to get permission to drive on them. Some of the logging trails can be fun especially after it rains, but it is not exactly legal or recommended.
Most military installations have a group of Jeepers that get together for trips, you just have to find them. There are also German Jeepers out there that stick together as well, though a lot of them have never left pavement (I don't mean 4x4 schrottie in this comment, though I'm pretty sure he agrees with me). Anyway, linking up with these groups is a pretty good way to find places to go. If you are in the Stuttgart area, let me know.
