Black bear-- Safe or not ?
We, my wife and oldest daughter, are going out west to the 4 corners area the last week of Sept and first two weeks of Oct. I want to run Black bear but she says no way its too dangerous. She saw the article about the couple from Missouri that fell to their death a couple of years ago. I know there are some risks with any thing you do. I have a 4 door unlimited Rubicon, will I have trouble with the switch backs?

Here's a good article with some good pictures. I haven’t done this trail yet, but I do have a friend who has done this trail several times in a Toyota FJ40, he tells me I won’t have any trouble in my 07 unlimited.

Talk to people that have ran it.
Don't do it if you have any reservations.

This one has been on my to-do list. Everything I have seen, read, and heard about it is that it's not technically difficult, but will be an issue if you don't like switchbacks and drop-offs. There is a lot of video on youtube to be viewed as well. People run it in a variety of stock SUVs, even full-size.
Stock 4runners and such run it all the time so you shouldn't have any trouble except the nerves. Check out traildamage.com and colorado4x4.org for recent pictures and reports. You can always tell the family to walk down.
