Cool Capitol Reef-Sept. 10-12

I am going to capiol reef with a local 4x4 club if anyone is wanting to join in on doing some jeepin' in that country. anyone is welcome to come. Here is the skinny on the trip from the trail leader:

Lets meet in Capitol Reef at 8:30 am and leave at 9:30 am on Saturday September 11th. The meeting place (N38.28526 W111.24630) is in the park and about 1 mile from the visitors center (N38.29199 W111.26241). For lack of better words it is a park within the park. Its a dirt parking area with lots of grass and picnic tables, kind of like a park!

The trail, round trip, is around 120 miles so make sure your tank is full or bring extra gas. The trail takes us south along the Waterpocket Fold (N38.28321 W111.12904), up the Burr Trail (N37.84987 W111.02376), west to Boulder and Highway 12 (N37.90112 W111.42514). We then head north on highway 12 for about 17 miles and hit the dirt again (N38.09937 W111.33716) heading east to Bowns reservoir. This is the first point where anyone that wants to cut the trip short can head north to Torrey and highway 24, although you will miss the best part of the trail.

After about 3 miles we hit a Y (N38.10845 W111.28729), this is the second point where , if anyone wanted to, you could split off and head into Capitol Reef the back way. This is the best part of the trail!!! Those who are camping will head on to Bowns reservoir (N38.10737 W111.27578) for the night. In the morning we will go back to the Y and head into Capitol Reef from the south.

This is a relatively easy trail but very scenic with a variety of terrain. Depending on the size of the group there are several side roads we could explore. If you plan on camping Saturday night (Party Time) please come prepared, there is always a chance of bad weather. There is a campground at Bowns reservoir that costs a few dollars but last time we camped there we camped on the shore of the reservoir and I dont think there was a fee but I wouldnt swear to it.

There is gas, food and lodging available in and just outside of Torrey.

Please let me know if you plan on doing this trail so I can have some Idea of who to look for Saturday morning.
.

we are going to go down friday late afternoon and that night camp in the park's campsite as long as they aren't full. so, any JK'ers that want to come, please join in.

Tempting - cool place. I've got Willie Nelson tickets Friday and if it goes anything like the last Willie show, I'll be lucky to be conscious by Sunday...

it doesn't seem like anyone is wanting to join, but if you are thinking about or what not, there is a slight change. on sat., we will not be camping on the trail. it will be an all day trail and end back at the morning rally point basically. so, if you are wanting to camp, get a hotel, or head home afterwords you can. we are going to try to stay at capitol reef's camp ground fri and sat night and head home on sunday. hope to see you there!

that'd be sweet if you can go. stupidly we can't get there til late that night now on friday. my wifes work is making her go to a meeting after work til 1830. then we will head right on down after that. nothing like setting up camp in the dark.
