I will be in Colorado this summer on vacation for 2 weeks. We are going to be in Estes Park for 7 days and Alamosa for 5 days. We are going to visit Rocky Mountain NP and Great Sand Dunes NP. We were their about 4 years ago. We are going to do some hiking and other tourist stuff. What I would like to know more about is the trails. I know about Medano Pass in Sand Dunes. I read about visiting 2 ghost towns north of Creede in the National Forest. If anyone has some suggestions for me it would be a big help. Like a great view at the end of the trail or something like that. Is it worth it to visit the ghost towns? Also I should mention that I will have my wife and kids. So I am not looking for any extreme trails. Just a few fun trips with the family and the kids oh and the furry child as well.

 

the ghosts town are very cool and im sure the kids would love them. theres a ton of moderate trails you can do right off of I-70 and highway 285 as well. as the time gets closer you should recruit a few of us to show you around. im sure we would love to get a group together!

Thanks for the replies. The web site is very cool with good info on the trails. Deanthemachine04 have you been to the one I am talking about just north of Creede. When I looked on the National Forests web page I was a little unsure if they are just ATV trails. I do appreciate the help and as it gets closer maybe we could set something up.

 

Oh and also wanted to say that you are very lucky to live in Colorado. If I had traveled out their before a wife, kids, job, etc. I would be living in Colorado.

 

I hear ya..My GF of 4 years was leaving to work for the family buiss in Delaware. i was turning 30...i said there is no way in hell i am moving to Delaware so let me go to colorado first! been here 1 year this week!

 

no, im afraid i have not. i have a couple trail books at my house so when i get off work i will go check that one out. like a-squared said we would be glad to show you around when you get here. between the people on this forum im sure we have hit almost every jeep trail in colorado!

Just searched Creede and ran into this thread...
There is an 11 mile loop north of Creede called Bachelor's loop. It is an old semi-4x4 trail open to all vehicles. It runs around the old silver mine and there is an old camp town on it. It is a nice little easy run.
I have a house just outside of South Fork, and I make that run if someone wants to see the old mine town.
