Default Lets get together in Moab- and form groups to run during the week!

I've seen a bunch of posts asking who's doing what and wanting to make a group to run with... The "recommended" proceedure is to register with red rock and join the lottery of trails. I'm sure there are a bunch of us that just didn't know for sure they would make it until the last minute. I propose that we meet nightly at the Old Spanish Trail Arena (the place where the vendor show is held)... sunset is about 7:45 so 8:30 should give us plenty of time to get off the trail... we can then make a couple of groups to go on trails that arent' reserved... We typically just hang out at city market in the morning and wait for a group to form... but it will be such a zoo this week I'm thinking the arena, the night before makes more sense, and the arena is plenty accessible and has plenty of room.

I'm attaching a copy of the Red Rock trail list - so we can plan look for trails that will be available.

We typically come with a group and run the more difficult trails- so far no dents or scratches... and I bring the whole family- wife, 14yr old boy, 9yr old girl. It's great fun... I wouldn't say I'm qualified to be a trail "leader" but I'd feel plenty comfortable on most any trail with a group of jk's...

My group typically includes a bone stock jk- and a tj that looks like an old mail truck... and we always make it through.

Almost every trip we make a run on the front 1/2 of Fins & Things... it's just a couple minutes from town only takes about 45 minutes and it's a great place to get your feet wet, and get over the anxiety of the whole thing... especially if you're worried about body damage. The trail is rated difficult- and has some elements that will scare you at first... but mostly you'll gain alot of confidence. And it's alot of fun.

Watch for me... I'm in the Bullfrog Jeep...

We'll arrive on Sunday - so I'll be at the arena Sunday & Monday nights. looking to run Monday and Tuesday- then to BFE on Weds and the Show on Thursday... I'd stay for longer but I lose the condo Thursday.

Here's a picture of the fam...

If you like this idea... post here ... and maybe post pics (of the jeep and the fam) -it'd be nice to actually start to get to know you before we get there

I plan on arriving sometime on Tuesday. I would like to do a run on Wednesday once we find out the schedule for the JK Jam (specifically the drawing and any displays).

I plan on attending the vendor show on Thursday and have plans Wednesday and Thursday night already. Friday and Saturday I am helping on trails, so Wednesday and maybe the last Sunday are my only open days.

What are everyone's plans for Wednesday?

Again, depending on the actuall schedule for JK Jam, I would be willing to take a group on any of the follow:

1. Moab Rim (not sure if the Red Rock club has exclusive use on this day because the hiking group is so small, so this may not be an option)
2. Rose Garden Hill - Great trip, but is out the opposite side of town from BFE.
3. Kane Creek
4. Poison Spyder and/or Golden Spike - This is a long trail and will probably be packed; one of the few days it is not an official run with Red Rock club. Because we will get a late start because of JK Jam, ths is probably not a good option.

I am not familiar with BFE area, but I am willing to explore there as well.

Default trails-

I'm pretty sure the red rock trails are closed to the public- for the whole day... they tend to go in big groups and even if you left 4 hours after them... you'd catch them along the way.

If you haven't been to Moab before- it's great fun... btw... not far from BFE is a sand dune area (on the way to picture frame arch)

Lenny- we'll check in with you at the arena Sunday night.

The trails are closed on the day they are scheduled to be run. some have been designated one way for those days. Not all trails are impacted. lots of people meet at the City Market each morning. From there they connect to do trails on thier own. Make sure you are downtown sat morning 4/11 for the start of the BIG SAT. Trail Runs. huge parade of every 4 wheel drive you have ever seen.
I am not sure if the trails are full. You could check with red rock 4 wheelers to see if they had trail openings. they do a great job with the trails and it is a good way to go if you've never been to Moab before.

Sounds good... I'll meet up when I can. I am coming in on Sun night and probably running some trails with my jeep club on Mon and Tues. Wed will do JK Jam around picking a friend up from the airport at 10:30am. I want to try to get in a trail after that so maybe around 11:30 or Noon? I'm sure guys will be planning/running all kinds of diff trails at all diff times being coordinated from BFE... I'll be in a 4 door Blacked out Rubicon, AZ plates (with my hard top and doors on). PM me if you'd like to swap cell phone #'s too...

Does anybody know when the JK Jam is starting, or is it just all day Wednesday? I arrive on Tuesday night and would like to run a trail on Wednesday around the Jam, before or after, up for anything.

Default sunday

If you make it into town early enough on Sunday- call or text me... 801-458-4328.... we are thinking we'll be intown early enough to do at least the 1st half of fins-n-things Sunday... it's only a couple of minutes out of town... just past potato salad hill....

it's alot of fun... and a great place to get your feet wet... especially if you haven't done Moab before...

the kids favorite is this rock.... it's really steep- but smooth and not off camber... so not scary... the kids make us loop around and hit it over and over... it doesn't have a name- but it's kind of like a rolercoaster.

Default 5hrs

it's about 5 hours.... about the same as it will be for us... we are about an hour north of salt lake.

we'll probably get away around 9:00 in Moab about 2... ready to run about 3:00

We're getting excited... pulling the hard top today- taking the soft top.... at least for first couple of days.

anyone bringing kids? my 9yr old girl is hoping to find a friend.
