Im going down to the Outer Banks at the end of May with the family. I hear there is some awesome offroading. Im taking the dog to so ill be towing a little trailer with me for all our crap. My dog takes up the whole back cuz hes a great dane. Ive never been there before so if anyone has any info on the outer banks offroading, please let me know.
I am a transplant to Pittsburgh from the NC/VA Beach area and die a little bit inside everyday. I jest as where I currently live allows me mud bogging, quads, hunting, fishing, and a real small town type feel. But every year I make the trek back to the homeland and always spend the time/cash to vacation for a week in Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach is a very clean, well-kept area that has plenty of activities if you like that type of stuff. Me, I sit on the beach all day with a beer and cigar, happy as a clam.
The area you're staying in is one of the nicest. North Myrtle is less crowded and more family oriented than if you were staying on the boulevard. If you enjoy fishing, Cherry Grove Pier will treat you well. If you really enjoy fishing and novelty, head for Apache Pier. It is the longest pier on the East coast and is actually quite a sight. Also while in NMB, ask around about the "end of the ocean". It is an inlet with topographical area that makes it appear that ocean just ends. Plus if you go there after high tide (or during, just because it still rocks), you can find tons of sand-dollars.
Good places to eat are abound. If I had to pick one, just one, I would checkout Dick's Last Resort at Barefoot Landing. They purposely insult you and give you large white hats made of paper with derogatory phrases and whatnot directed at you. It really is a good time. Food is okay but the experience is enough to justify it. If you are in the mood for a good lunch, look around for one of the four or five River City Cafes. Great food and great prices. Amazing atmosphere.
I would recommend against any of the "big name" places like Hard Rock or NASCAR. Just not what real beach vacations are about. Make sure you enjoy a few rounds of Putt-Putt.
I would take the Jeep. With the top down and doors off, you can feel the ocean air and smell the warm (mid-80s) saltwater rolling against the shore. Your gas mileage will suck but once your there I can only imagine it being totally worth it.
It is up to you for relaxation. Like I said, I am on the beach all day. I take my surfboard and try to catch a few good waves. But if you like, check out Ripley's Aquarium and Broadway at the Beach. Barefoot Landing is my favorite, especially the General Store. Tons of hot sauces. If you like being in the water, go for a banana boat ride or a half-day fishing trip out of Murrell's Inlet.
If you need anything else, please send me a PM and I will hook you up the best I can. Have a great trip!

I was going to ask you for some feedback once you are back, but i guess i will be there before you go. My brother lives in Canada and he is going there . I will be there june2-june5. I am driving from california to oklahoma, and then i will fly from TX to myrtle beach. I was going to take the jeep all the way to SC , but i am afraid it won't make it, so i decided to leave the jeep in texas and fly to SC.
If anyone have any suggestions on places, please post here. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
And who knows, by the time i take off, i may decide to drive all the way there instead of flying.

North Myrtle is great.
Go to Bimini's. A lot of locals go there. Food is good. Get the grouper.
Friday and Saturday afternoon Ocean Annie's is a decent beach bar.
Sam Snead's has great steaks.
