Default if you know about computers..Help!pls

so first off i know nothing about this type of stuff and do not even know whether this is even possible on a cost effective level.
i want a web cam or camera to sit in a room and film video, then i would like it to automatically stream this video to a web site were it can be stored and viewed at a later date.

is this possible?
what would i need to make it possible?

i would need to do it for multiple rooms like maybe 30 so i could not afford a imac in each of these rooms, would this work with just a web cam and some device to relay the video

Sounds like revenge of the nerds.... Check out IP cams but you would need inet access in each room or a wireless camera system into a 30 ch multiplexer that uploads to an off site DVR. Possible but expensive. What kinda distance are the rooms and how far for the off site location? Is this for personal or commercial?

You can do this but it is not cheap by any means. What is the purpose behind this? that determines how you could go about installing it. Really you would need VPC (Video Processor) server, this would would not only collect the video and make the cutouts, but would also be able to label them with the room number, etc... Of course the VPC alone will cost you about 50-66K depending on the feed capability. So if you are asking to do it on the cheap, you are most likely out of luck. I do this for a living, our video just comes from other sources but it is all the same concepts.

Check out envysion.com. They are a DVR based surveillance co that allow you to access the cameras and video via their website. Dont know how it would work out to stream directly to a website but you can ask them about that...

Sounds like a lil porn website you are starting...

To to best buy and buy a cam for your computer if not already capable, if you don't know what your looking for the geek squad will, that should come with everything you need but you need to create a account on YouTube most likely and upload away!!!!!
