Road Trip Games
OK, so a post in the thread (https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...er-if....-quot) actually inspired me to create this thread.
Let's here some fun ways you all pass the time while on road trips. I realize nowadays with all the digital entertainment these types of activities may not be as prevalent as they once were. Surely some of you still do them. If others do not, maybe this thread will be a good resource for them to use in passing the time on those long treks on the way to a trail.
I'll start with a family favorite we derived from the old Slug-Bug game. We call it The Car Game
The Objective: Get as many pennies as you can spotting and calling out cars by nickname and color.

Now let's see yours.

I'll start with a family favorite we derived from the old Slug-Bug game. We call it The Car Game
The Objective: Get as many pennies as you can spotting and calling out cars by nickname and color.
The allowed cars and their nicknames:
- Volkswagen Bug - "Slug-Bug"
- Jeep Wrangler - "Wrangler-Dangler" (my personal favorite)
- Chrysler PT-Cruiser - "Bruiser-Cruiser"
- Mini Cooper - "Penny-Mini"
- Hummer (any type) - "Bummer-Hummer"
- Toyota FJ Cruiser - "Easter-Egg"
The rules:
- Each player starts with $1.00 in pennies (100 pennies) and a destination is determined. (e.g. If we were driving from San Antonio to Dallas we might choose Austin as our destination)
- All vehicles (not cars, the kittens are safe) are worth $0.01 each except for classic Volkswagen Bugs which are worth $0.02.
- As you observe each of the cars above you shout the nickname of the car and the color (e.g. "Wrangler-Dangler, Sunburst Orange"). The first one to call out the name and color gets paid by all other players. The color plays an important role in verifying the validity of the sighting. It is not necessary to know the exact color of the vehicle (except for Jeeps
). For jeeps it is often quite fun to throw in other redeeming characteristics such as "lifted", "topless", "nekkid", or "beast", but do so at risk of losing a penny because all that is needed is color. - In the event of a tie, the tying players say, "Jinx". The first one to say Jinx is payed by all other players. If Jinx is said simultaneously, then the nickname of the vehicle must be said backwards (in this example "Dangler-Wrangler". The first one to say it correctly gets payed all other players. The color is not needed in the event of a tie-breaker.
- Any player who erroneously calls out a vehicle pays all other players according to the vehicles value. (e.g. If a person sees a Chevy HHR and calls out "Bruiser-Cruiser") This prevents players from just blurting out names.
- Vehicles at automotive rental or sales establishments are excluded from play.
- Each vehicle may only be called out once during a given game. (e.g. if you pass a blue "Penny-Mini" who then passes you later, you only get that "Penny-Mini" once.)
- Any player who runs out of pennies is eliminated from the game and cannot play or assist other players.
- If all but one player runs out of pennies prior to reaching the destination, then the player with all the pennies wins and the game is ended.
- Upon reaching the destination all pennies are tallied and the one with the most pennies is declared the winner.

Now let's see yours.
We always play the "zip" game. Where I come from, windmills are called zips, and its everyone in the car for themselves. First one to see it, calls it and gets a point. If you call a zip thats not really a zip, minus 1 point. If you call a zip that someone else already called, minus 1 point. There is no money involved or anything fancy...someone wins and thats about it. I'm shocked no one brought this one up...I though everyone knew about the zip game
Must be a mid-west thing.

Alright Hook-Em, I'll jump on board.
The Alphabet Game
Starting with "A" everyone takes turns looking for letters of the alphabet. Once you find it, the next person searches for the next letter. We would look at signs, licenses plate, car badges, etc. To find the letter. The only rule is that the letter has to be outside the car.
License plate game
Print a blank map off the computer and color in the corresponding states with the plates you see on the trip. Always fun when you can color in Hawaii and Alaska.
