iPhone as GPS
Hi all -
I am looking at purchasing a GPS. I have been considering the Garmin 60csx as it comes well recommended here. However, I an curious about using an iPhone for GSP. Does anyone use their iPhone for this purpose? If so, does it function well as a GSP? I am concerned about losing the signal in remote areas, etc.
Thanks!
Pete

I just added the Tomtom app to my iPhone and it works great. I even bought the Tomtom cradle. Not cheap but I always have a GPS handy and it goes in my pocket when I get out of the Jeep. I don't have to worry about someone stealing it there.

I'm with Crash. It works great! I also use my 3gs as a yardage finder on the golf course with a golf app. I think it's a little off. A few yards or so. Maybe my 7 iron is the problem. Nah, it's the iPhone.
I use the MotionX GPS Drive app. I use this daily to go from point to point in Phoenix and it works. Most of the time flawlessly. It is $25 a year or $3 a month for voice guidance. The maps are always up to date.
I have used telenav as well but MotionX works out cheaper and is better in my opinion. It has an easier UI, more features for finding things around you, it has access to traffic data and retains more addresses for a longer period of time.
It only works if you have cell coverage. The maps are not stored on the phone they have to be downloaded, so if you live in an area with poor coverage or are thinking about offroad travel this option is not suitable
