Wheels & Tires - Close to Pulling the Trigger!
I've been saving like a mad man and about to pull the trigger on some new wheels and tires in the next month or so. Going with Duratracs and i'm looking at getting some Cragar Soft 8's. Although I like how cheap they are and fit in my price range to let me get some Duratracs, I would like to know what other options are out there you all have had. I'm not looking for an expensive wheel, i like the Black rim on my Flame Red JK.
Also, what's the difference between 16x7 and 16x8? Not sure if moving up to the 17" is completely necessary if i can get a good wheel/tire combo i like. What size tire for a DD with mild off road use right now? (Jeep is my DD and i travel to Louisville every other weekend to see the Fiance) Thanks for the help! Pics are always a good help as well if you got them.

Looking for something that is aggressive but keeps decent gas mileage. I'm not looking for a lift quite yet until I have the time to really take it to the trails. So most likely 33's since it will still be alright on the trails while stock.Would that be the 285/75R16's? I'm a newbie to this stuff, so if it doesn't say 33" in big neon lights i'm probably going to miss it...

You may know this already but the way the tire size works for sizes like you quoted are as follows. The first number is the width of the tire section in mm's. The second number is the ratio of height to width of the tire section. The third number is the wheel diameter that the tire fits.
So the tire you mentioned above has a section width of 285 mm or 11.22 inches (285 mm / 25.4 mm/inch). The height of the tire section is 75% of this so 11.22*.75=8.415 inches. The diameter of the tire is made up of two of the section heights plus the wheel diameter: 2*8.415+16=32.83 inches.
I think a lot of people would recommend you go with the 16 inch wheel if not the 15 inch wheel. Calling Discount Tire Direct and talking to them (and mentioning that you are a member of this forum for $50 off the price of five tires) should get you squared away.
Take a look at this thread: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...-VS-15x8-Steel.....

If you wanna go the duratracs I would recommend going to the 315 size or in other words a "35" but that all depends on what lift you have and so on but trust me if you go 33 you will kick your self and will say dammit should have gone bigger size... But it's all personal preference but I love my duratracs only complaint is that they are known for weak side walls.... I have not had issues yet.. Knock on wood

By going 35 how much do you sacrifice on mpg? Like I said, I travel to Louisville every other weekend, that's the main reason for going with 33's if the mileage is better. I saw a couple threads that showed stock height with 35's and they seem to work out alright, any suggestions on a lift that fits a tight budget if I decide 35's?
