Assault rifle pictures - post em up!
Holy cow!
I live in London, England which has a higher crime rate than New York and only the army would have access to guns like these.
Our police don't even carry guns on themselves. If they did then the criminals would start carrying them also. If they're needed they send in a SWAT team armed to the teeth.
If anyone was caught in possession of one of these it's 10-15 years in jail, before a shot is even fired.
Aren't you guys worried that some mentally unstable or very angry person could just buy an assault rifle and kill innocent people, like we have seen so many times in the past in many different countries?
I do have 2 airsoft rifles and a handgun, but I need a license to keep the plastic replicas, need to be over 21 years of age and have to be a member of a club and play airsoft several times a year, and these only fire plastic bb's!!!
What I'm saying is that if someone was to break into a house, they're going to be armed in case the home owner is armed. So really, its a no win situation. I suppose it's too late to change anything as it's now too late.
Yes I think the guns look very cool, hunting is OK but some of these are clearly not hunting rifles they're assault rifles designed to kill in numbers.
That's just my rant, and my opinion living over the pond. We have a major problem with knife crime in the UK, if I knew criminals could easily get their hands on guns instead of knives I would swap the baseball bat under my bed (which is technically illegal) for at least a Glock.

I'm glad your country has laws in place to keep firearms away from the people intentionally misusing them. Fortunately so does the U.S.
Of course, we can't completely control who gets their hands on these weapons or what their intentions are. Say some felon has his girlfriend purchase a weapon for him, sadly I'm sure it happens. The fact that law abiding citizens can purchase these firearms is personal preference. I hunt, and shoot recreationally. And I own the proper weapons for each activity.
I personally think an ar is a fantastic platform for new shooters, women, and men interested in the versatility, and customizable ability. Its easy to take apart, service, find parts for, and the sales on them are growing exponentially every quarter.
My girlfriends first gun is an ar. We are building three more, in different calibers. Another 556, a 762, and 308. I want to take a big game animal with the ar this season, versus using the 30-06 from years previously.
Back on subject, more people die in the U.S. from gun related crimes than just about anywhere else by a long shot. This doesn't and shouldn't cause issues for the rest of us. In the uk maybe it has, but this is not the uk. The fact that police don't carry weapons there is absurd. If criminals have just as much of a right to have any type of weapon, that is absurd as well.
Sounds like they got you guys by the golf bag over there, and I feel for you in that regard. Beauty of it here is, if I obey the law, pay my taxes, and have the cash, I can spend my money on whatever I want. Including class 3 weapons, or just your everyday shooting accessories.
The firearms from overseas are works of art and you should be able to own them. I know I'm probably just ranting too, but help me into understanding your stance.
As far as breaking and entering is concerned, in most states its very uncommon. That Doesn't mean planning and preparation can't be fully advantageous. Also, most states have laws protecting home owners to use their means to protect their families and assets. There are probably many underlying ins and outs of this statute depending on locale. Most americans are with me when I say that if someone is willing to cross that line into your home, where does it get drawn? And at which point do you allow them to draw it for themselves or give them a hand?
Say your pregnant wife is at home alone, some one starts banging down the door. Do you want 911 to be her only outlet? They will not be there when it counts. 2 minutes seems like thirty. If she has a plan and a clear thought, it could make all the difference. This recently happened in the states, chick blew the dude away, protecting her family.

When imminent danger is seconds away the cops are only 15 minutes away!
Last I heard violent crime statistics in England have been up since the '90's and you're safer walking the streets of most Pro-Gun American cities than London.
Someone wants to steal my wallet they may or may not get an unhappy experience with a pistol or a large knife.
Someone wants your wallet you loose your wallet and possibly get injured.
Also, it's not like criminals in your country don't have or get guns either. What was that, two or three years ago that guy was walking around with a 9mm Beretta handgun shooting people?
Considering all handguns like that were taken away from your law abiding citizens and your police and military don't use the Beretta...where did he get the gun?
So that means your criminals are armed while your government thinks you aren't responsible enough to own one.
Sucks for you.

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

Here are some statistics and facts for you so that you can draw your own conclusion on firearms being dangerous.

BBC News - Men jailed for life for Thusha Kamaleswaran shop shooting
And here is a free copy of a great book detailing how firearms can, and do, drop crime rates in the US.

Edit: Let's throw one more in there for good measure. Children are 100x more likely to die in a swimming pool then from a firearm. Should we now make all private swimming pools illegal?

Not to stir old blood, but last time I checked a bunch of us armed yanks pushed the queens finest back across the pond 236 years ago. I'll keep my firearms and my chance of defending myself from enemies both foreign and domestic.
