Default 58 CJ5 with a Ford 289.

Pick this up last week. Needs a lot of little work. Never worked on a CJ before, so I'm learning it as I go.

Sounds cool, looks to be in pretty good shape.

CJ's are easy to work on, only thing with them years the parts are harder to come by. Give me a ring if you need anything.

What a great engine. I always loved the 289. They'll spin like a whore in church.

looks fairly decent from the one picture posted. When you get a chance, could you post some close ups with more detail? It looks like you made a real find.

I started to dig into the engine, Found the whole coolant system is rusted out. Everything else has little problems, but not as big.

If anyone is around socal and knows how to rebuild engines, I could use a hand.

Also, Found a M151 MUTT. It's a real bucket, but might be worth something.

You might wanna check and make sure you have a 289. Most 289s were blue. The 260 was red. There may have been a few early 289s that were red, but I don't think so. I could be wrong. 'Course if somebody's painted it, it could be most anything. However, from a 221 to a 289, you cannot tell the difference lookin at it from the outside.

This engine has been red, blue and grey. I've done some cleaning to it.

When my motor died, a 260ci, I just picked up a 302 from a bronco. It was cheaper than building a motor and its still running after 20 years. Jeep don't get a lot of miles.

The 302 will bolt in the same as a 289.

If that is the stock transmission, take it easy. No speed shifts.

Good luck with your new purchase.
