Default 1" Body Lift

Hey guys, I got 2.5" lift on my jeep and I used to have 31x8 R15 Tires, Now I have the same lift kit but 35x12.5R15 Tyres. It runs fine on the street, doesnt rub even on u-turns, but i am afraid of going offrading in the desrt it will definately rub.

Now I have a cople of options, I obviously need to lift the car by atlease 1.5 - 2 more inches. I thought of installing RE4.5s but it will cost me too much, especially that I have to ship it overseas to UAE (I would have to pay around $1000 for shipping only).

Other option is to install spacers on my existing coils, or a body lift, or ofcourse both. Doing research, I found so many manufacturers and different materials for these spacers.

If anyone has any good / bad experiences, please share it. I would like to know the pros and cons of each and which material would be more durable for rough sand dune offroading.

I did the Rough Country body lift. 1.25"

No problems. Just follow the directions and remove the bolts on the passenger side and put in the spacers and new bolts. $120/ This will give you a little extra space that you want and will help keep your center of gravity lower. When you just move the light body up it doesn't change your CG much. When you lift the engine / tranny and everything up it does effect your CG more. Out on the trail a little difference in CG can mean the difference.

Hope this helps. My JK runs on the street with just this BL and 35's. I can't disco it and go on trails but I was able to get my tires on quicker this way. I will put my suspension lift on soon. My mod list is going slower this time. My first JK was almost the way I wanted and then I rolled it. See signature pics

Good luck

Uh, think he's askin about a TJ. Usually you'd wanna run 5-6inches of lift with 35's on a TJ. I personally don't think a 1in bodylift is gonna do it for ya added to the 2.5 you have.I know people that run 33's on a 4inch lift with no probs.

Thanks for the posts guys,

How about if I add both? a 1.5" coil spacer and a 1" body lift, this will give me a total of 5" lift. I'm thinking of doing it step by step, first the coil spacers, and then the 1" BL (if needed) or visa versa. Which one should i go with first?

If it were me, I'd do the body lift first because of your driveline angles and shafts themselves. Have you dropped the tranny with a spacer kit , do you have adjustable control arms?

In addition, if I were you, I'd pm WOL, he has alot of knowledge about TJ's. He can also point you in the right direction to go. Also, I emailed a buddy running a 4in suspension and he's having no rubbing issues with 35's. Most of the guy's around here run a bit more, usually I see 4 or 5in sus with a one in body lift. But they do like to ride high around here.lol. I helped a friend install a 2in bb on his tj, he's running 33's but they rub. He's got a 1in body lift sitting in a box, think that will take care of his issues.

Haven't dropped the tranny & no adjustable control arms, all stock. lol Its good to know that no rubbing on 4" lift, it means that if I install 1.5 spacers in addition to my 2.5" lift kit, I will have 4" lift in total which should work fine. I think I will do that.

I also heard that it is not advisable to install more than 1" BL, I dont understand why, is there a specific reason?

Thanks alot for all your inputs MK, I will also PM WOL and see what he/she has to say.

It's gonna handle and ride like crap at that lift height with no adj arms or fixed arms related to that lift height and be bouncy as hell, plus your either gonna have to drop the tranny or add a slip yoke eliminator. You'll also need to recenter your axles with either brackets or adj track bars. New bump stops, sway bar links, brake lines and probably new shocks aswell. That's why I suggested the body lift. Alot of people don't go higher than a 1in cause anything more, you usually have to start extending crap that's being strechted and it tends to look like crap aswell. If you've ever seen a jeep with a2 or 3in body lift you can see right through the gap between the frame and body big time. On what you have now, plus a 1in BL you could get away with 35's but I wouldn't be looking for any big articulation.
