You should be fine without re-gearing

There are people running around with 35"s and 3.21 gearing. It's not the perfect set up, but it's not bad. Tons of people on the forums will tell you otherwise, but they usually have alot more money to throw at their rigs. I've been planning on regearing when I pay off my Jeep in 4 years, however the more I off road in it the less I'm worried about the gearing. All of the Jeeps I have owned are already really capable right off the lot. Everything else is just nice things to have, not really necessary.

That being said, if you go bigger than 33's I recommend a regear.

Definitely just get the tires and drive it to see how it feels before even thinking about regearing. I think you'll find it does just fine. I'm one of those guys with the 3.21's and 35's, and i drive 60 miles a day Do you have auto or manual. If yours is an auto you'll want to get a procal to recalibrate it for the new tire size. But if it's a manual, nothing will be affected except your speedometer. I didn't bother

Not to hijack the thread, but I've got 32's on my Jeep with the 3.8 auto and it is absolutely gutless under 3k rpm. I don't know if that is due to gearing or not though. Just a 2008 unlimited 4 door X. Any thoughts?

Yes, the auto is poorly geared for even the factory 32's 4.88 gears would be much better. I really don't know how all these guys run 37's on an auto at all without going to 5.38

4.88s wouldn't be too much for a daily driver? I was thinking 4:11s or something. Eventually going you get 35s but for now I need to do something

If you are going 35's you will want to run 5.13 with the auto. For what gears cost you only want to have to do them once.

10-4. Thanks! I'll just wait then and change them when I do the tires.
