I mounted my antenna by the tire carrier and ran the 18' of coax through the tail gate, up along the wiring harness, along the carpet on pass side and have just enough to make to the side of the dash! I mounting CB above rear view mirror.

I would assume, this is the case with everyone running the same route, and i just need to buy a double female connector and a 3'-6' piece to finnish?

 

Run it in the roll cage under the padding. It will make it with about an inch to spare. I also purchased a 90 degree connector to make it cleaner.

 

second that. i rough measured mine before i ran the coax and determined it had to go along the roll bar on the passenger side to make it to the rear view mirror. that works, no splicing required.

 

I am ordering a kit that provides 18 as well. Is it really too short? especially if I mount the CB by the driver side right leg.

 

I made it no problem to that spot. I have about a foot of extra as well. You should be fine

 

Every connection/ splice/ adapter, etc will cause 'loss' in your signal quality. I'm not sure with CB's but the stuff i use, i lose about .5db for every connection or adapter!

SO, being able to use one length of cable will be in your best interest.

 

I thought about running over the roll bar after I quit working on it for the day. I think I will get a 90 degree also.

 

Yea if your going with the above the windshield mount then go up the roll bar. If not go along the tub

 

and mine is a 4 door and there was a little slack left in the coax. so if you're mounting it at the mirror go over the roll bar, if you're mounting it down low go down under the doors.

 

Yes, the full length is best. But the "trick" (and so many skimp here because they know any better) is to use the best coax you can buy. Then a barrel connector won't do that much, as it is HF. Now if you're talking VHF or higher, then you better make sure you have the full length. VHF and HF are really quite different.
