DOes the wattage apply to the CB unit itself or the antenna. The reason I ask is because the Cobra 76XTR is only 4 watts... is that bad? What is the wattage on the 75... I couldnt find it.

The output watts on all CB radio are regulated by the FCC and are only allowed a maximum of 4 watts output. There is a mod that cb shops can do to certain if not all radios called "peak and tweak", this will bring your output watts up depending on the cb to 10 to 20 watts. It's not necessary though for trails and close communications.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I'd like to encourage you to go legit. Ham licenses are a lot easier to earn than when I got mine in the 60s (let expire in the 80s, but was WB6MPD). Anyone tempted to run a linear on a CB should consider going legit. There's so much more to do. A close friend of mine is launching balloons to over 90K feet with ham radio relay gear from their club. Their project has been so successful, that National Severe Storms Lab is working with them to develop recovery hardware and software for their own experimental balloons.
