Default Which CB?

I am going to buy a CB for my Jeep and have narrowed it down to the Cobra 75 and the Cobra 29.

I know the 75 is super small, but is there a downfall to it?

Can the 29 do something the 75 can't?

I wanted to do the Cobra 75 as interior space is at a premium on the JK. Then I heard that people had some cranky 75s, then a friend's started acting up just before I went the radio shop. I asked them for a 75 and install and they said they no longer carried that unit. Cobra is being fickle about warrenty they said. I always wanted a big trucker CB so I said F-it and got the 29. Painful install but ended up looking good and completely out of the way.

Not gonna say what you should do, only what I did and heard.

75 is compact and perfect for trail use but if you want more performance and range 29 is the one jmo

Torn and I will be installing one in mine in a couple weeks. Maybe we should get you to help. What other parts (cable, antenna, mount, etc) do you recommend?

I went with the UNIDEN PRO 520 XL, I'm letting them install it the way I want. Always installed my own but for a mere $75 in labor, peak/tuned, SWR set and tuning the AM/FM radio as well for the price I can't beat that. That's a full saturday of anal retentive wiring I don't have to fool with. I'm doing a Loudmouth external on the dash vent and mounting it on the pass side of the console at an angle. Small little fella that will get the job done just fine along with a Firestick 2' antenna. I can clear the garage and it picks up as good as mounting a 4' antenna down on the rear bumper.

I have the Cobra 75 wxst here and it works just fine for me plus I like having it mostly hidden. I have it tuned to 1.1 SWR on channel 1 and 1.4 on channel 40 with a 4ft Firestick 2 on an Arizona Rocky Road mount and I get great reception.

Default I got a trc-447 and it might be better than cobra 29

Hard to find a CB around here, nobody was carrying them anymore. I wanted a Cobra 29, but my sister bought me a RadioShack TRC-447 for my birthday, so I went with it. On a recent trip I found a CB shop at a truck shop and had the tech checkout my radio. Stock it was putting out more power than the Cobra 29, and it has all the same features. For $40 the radio tech peaked the power, added a talk back circuit, and tuned it. After testing the upgrades the tech said it was keeping up with or beating any of the Cobra 29's he has upgraded.

It is a big radio but it fits easily on the drivers side of the console right next to the transfer case shifter. Paired with a Francis 4.5 ft ant and a teraflex mount and it works great.
