CB Radio and Remote Head
So, i've been tossing the idea of doing a CB in the Jeep for some time now. While searching the forums I saw a couple remote displays when people were describing the mounting locations. I know about the Cobra one, but thats not exactly what i'm going for.
ORICOM has exactly what I am looking for, but it is only available for the Aussie market.
Heres a picture of what i'm thinking

So anyone got ideas?

I plan on making one out if a Uniden 880 when I can afford the radio. It is a custom fabrication which is basically soldering in a 6-8 foot extension between the face and main body then custom fitting a mount.
Uhhh...The Oricom radio is a UHF rig for the Australian CB band, which is totally different from the US 27 Mhz CB band which probably makes it useless in the US, and there's nothing in the Uniden 880 manual that suggests it can be separated into two units. I suppose it might be possible, but to what end and at what cost? Just for Chicken Band??? Really??

Spook I usually recommend the 75 as well or the Midland version. I should have explained better. My plans are for a complete warranty voiding hack-up-the-radio-because-I'm-so-anal-about-how-I-want-it-to-look mod. This mod is only for experienced electronics techs. I have my own electronics bench in my shop. As far as the OP's query that is the only way get an American CB to look like the unit he posted as far as I know. Sorry for the confusion. I have always wanted Cobra or Uniden to build a remote face with a din size mount.
Well, I admire your ingenuity, if not your practicality.
If I wanted to go the warranty-voiding, type-acceptance busting route I'd just mount an Icom 706 or a Yaesu FT-857, but then I'm not technician enough to tackle a build like you describe.

I looked for a remote unit like this as well and settled on the Cobra. I'm planning a similar roll-my-own remote-face CB. I think this can be a very cool mod since we can't seem to buy one anywhere.
