Cobra 29 LX LE
I feel your pain man, I use to be in the Army and I have to have things done a certain way. Believe me that I say that it drove me up the wall knowing that I have a brand new product straight out of the box and it doesn't work. I should have it all setup this sunday and show you how it runs and my mounting options.
Here are some pics of my recent LX LE install.

Where are you guys mounting these big radios? I have the Uniden Pro 510XL only because it fits in the jeep. I also have a Ranger TR966 that I would love to put in but I can't find anyplace to put it. I thought about putting it behind the center console but I think it would be too clumsy to work with. I also looked at the Tuffy overhead console but the idea of banging my nugget into that sharp corner turned my off. I see some mounting them on the dash but since I live in sunny SoCal I'm afraid the sun would cook it.
I just got one of these as well and can't figure out a good place to mount it in either my LJ or my JK.
The radio looks pretty nice though and can't wait to try it out.
I would like to keep my glove box as nice as that install looks.

Just got it benchtested. Radio's fine and I now have a few more things to check. As for mounting, mine's above the rearview on an ARR radio mount. I do currently hit my head on it, but I'm going to fab up some extra bracketry to tuck it in closer to the windshield.

Arizona rocky road, its just a rectangular aluminum bar with tabs welded on the end to bolt it to the sport bar. overpriced for what it is but I got mine used.
Turns out my whole issue was in fact an antenna tuning issue, for me, no screw=perfect.

Finally completed my install. Here's a couple pics, sorry for the quality, I took them in the boat wash bay at work.
Straight on.
From my perspective in the driver's seat.
Profile.
I put a couple 90 degree bends in some 1 inch flat stock to tuck the radio down in to the windshield.
