Cobra 29 - Wipers turn on randomly
So I've seen a few posts about this weird anomaly already, and I just experienced it myself...
I turn on my CB and start performing normal functions. Changing channels, receiving and transmitting. Then randomly my wiper blades will wipe once.
Some other guys experience there dash lights turn off completely, radio goes out, and wiper blades go crazy. So far I haven't experience anything like that, hopefully never will, but any thoughts?
The CB radio's HOT is wired straight to the battery. NEGATIVE side is tap'd into the Ground post inside the passenger's footwell. The antenna is grounded to the tailgate.
After reading some posts on the forum and doing some research, I'm afraid this might be some electronic unexplainable voodoo. Anyone have an ideas or remedies for this???

your power cables could be running past electronic devices creating a magnetic field, can affect relays and IC circuits. I always try to run stuff as low and away from existing electronics and wires to prevent bleed over on the power or shorting threw the wires.
Grounding the radio at the battery is a good idea, but probably not one which will make any difference here. The problem here is RF getting into your Jeep's electronics. Usually this is fixed by ensuring your coax antenna feedline is routed at right angles to vehicle wiring harnesses. There are online sources for those schematics; Google them. You just want to ensure that your coax - which, if you bought it from a truck stop, CB supplier or Radio Shack is probably the crappiest coax imaginable, which compounds the problem - passed perpendicularly over the vehicle's wiring harness, not routed parallel to it. Leaky coax + parallel routing = RF interference.
Also, ensure your coax connectors are solidly installed on the coax, tightly fastened to the radio and antenna, and sealed from the weather. Crimp-on connectors SUCK. Teflon-silver, solder-on connectors RAWK.

I was able to fix mine from doing it by disconnecting the rear window defroster. I am not sure if this would work for everyone, but it worked for me. There are a lot of things that could possibly cause this problem. I spent a lot of time troubleshooting and isolating circuits until I found out for sure it was the rear defroster receiving the interference and in turn causing the weird symptoms.
I have a 2010 hardtop with tinted windows and my antenna is mounted on the tail gate behind the tire.
