Default cobra 75 messing with my electronics

I've had my cobra 75 in my Jeep for over 6 months and its been fine up until today. i was in traffic and wanted to see what the issue was so i turned on my cb and went to ask the truckers whats up when all of a sudden my wipers turned on, my radio turned off, my dash lights went off then on, and i heard a chime. wtf?? then i did it again and same thing.. my voice still transmitted and i could hear them but every time i tried it, i felt like i was going to kill my Jeep. i looked at my power wire and its not frayed or hitting metal. only difference between last time i used it and now is my new diehard platinum.. what did i do?!

Sounds like a grounding issue with the radio

How do you have the CB power wired? (where is the hot lead hooked up to)

Hmm, strange indeed!

You mentioned that you recently swapped batteries - my initial thought is that this has to be related somehow. I assume you've re-checked the terminal connections and all (and of course also assume that if this was the problem, you'd probably have bigger issues then the CB, like not starting). Have you tried your spot lights to see if they are working as expected and do not reproduce the issue? Figured that might at least help rule out the battery itself.

Given that it occurs when you attempt to transmit - the only other thing that really comes to my mind is that there must be something shorted inside the radio on the transmit side; in that when you transmit, the short occurs and results in a significant draw from the battery. If you had a ground issue with the radio, or if the power lead was shorting to ground somewhere, I'd have to imagine the issue would not be limited to just transmitting.

Anyways, I'm sure the above doesn't really help all that much - just trying to give my 1.5 cents on it

Had the same problem. Moving the ground to the battery fixed it. Not before I scratched my hood with the windshield wiper though. Grrrr.

Interesting that this thread popped up. I'm having a few issues as well. Just started Sunday and I haven't changed anything. Key the mic and my airbag, ESP/BAS and check engine lights come on. Power and ground are direct to the battery. Any thoughts on this?

Frick guys, I am happy to hear this! I have had the same issue with my AM/FM/USB/LSB. key the mike and wipers and dash goes blank! All the radio places are stunned no advice. I tried building my own tinfoil faradyne (spl) cage, power straight to battery, etc. no luck. I think there is some sort of radio freq distortion that messes up the PC? I even went to powering it up with my portable booster and STILL the same issue?? I feel your pain and frustration, if there are any tech's out there that have the answer, that would be much appreciated!!
