Cobra 75 - stopped working all of the sudden...
Ok, so I am truly stumped as to what is going on...I installed my Cobra 75 CB setup with the 4' Firestik and Cooltech Gatemount, and everything worked great. I was actually really surprised I was able to figure everything out. Now, for some reason today, I am getting nothing coming through my CB. The Cobra unit when I start it up used to make like beeping or some sort of noise to let me know I turned it on, then I could go through th channels, and eveyrthing worked great. Now I turn it on, and there is no sound coming out. Nothing. Nada. It lets me go through the channels, it even lights up the bars to show me when the signal is coming through or whatever, but no sound. I've messed with the squelch a bunch too. The weather band isn't working either. I literally have not changed a thing since the install. I checked all my wires, I am still connected to the battery and th ground is still good. The antenna seems fine...Any ideas what could be wrong?
Please help me out...
Really looking for answers here. I have checked and rechecked everything. I find it hard to believe that this unit would konk out so quickly...
Does anyone even have a recommendation of what I should do/where I can go to diagnose the problem?

my firestik antenna cable had a bad solder in it (after only a month of use), which it turn fried my cb as i was essentially using it without an antenna. see if you can find another person with a cobra 75 to test the heldheld unit in. if it works in their jeep, then its a problem with the cables/antenna in your jeep.
Mine was working fine for a while (4 months), then worked intermittently, then I couldnt transmit or receive. When i had an SWR meter hooked up to it, it didnt even register when i keyed the mic. I thought the problem was loose or broken wires by the way it was acting. I called Cobra, they said send in the handset. Expecting something back from them soon.
You might try connecting it up to an external speaker. If you don't have one, try a 3.5 mm cable that you'd use to plug your Zune (my choice of music player) into your Jeep's stereo. Just plug your 75 into it and see if you can hear things. If so, that suggests a problem in the audio circuitry of the Cobra 75. You can return the handset and all to Cobra for repair under warranty for one year, IIRC. They'll get it back to you in a couple weeks. The address is on your copy of the warranty or you can find it on the web. No RMA is necessary, but do include a letter explaining the problem and a copy of the original purchase receipt.
No, no SWR meter...
Probably part of the reason I am so clueless as to what is going on, I have no idea what the readings are. All I know is it worked, and now it doesn't. I am going to have to try to get in contact with Cobra I think. and I am going to try the external speaker thing to see if that is the problem.
Thanks for the help, and keep it coming. All suggestions help me a great deal.

So it looks like it still works through the external speaker...when I hooked it up to my aux port, I got static and everything, so I guess the next step is to call Cobra? They replace the handheld part?

They'll probably want you to send them the whole thing. You can contact a human being service rep at (773) 889-3087, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., M-F. Outside those hours you'll reach a 24/7 computer assistance line.
Spoke with Willy at Cobra. Great guy to talk to. He had me send it in and he is going to replace it and send me a new handset within 2 weeks. Although it would have been better had this never happened, I am glad to see such stand up customer service.
