I'm hoping someone knows off the top of their head, but does anyone know what the wire size is for the power wires for the Cobra 75 CB? I'm going to be running out tomorrow to get the connectors for hooking up to the screws on the battery/ground and I want to make sure that I buy the right size first time around.

Off the top of my head, I'm guessing that the wire is either 16 or 18 gauge, but electronics is not my strong suit, so any help would be appreciated!

 

You'll probably find that the wires coming off the junction box on the 75 won't reach through the firewall to the battery. I'd suggest getting a run of heavier wire, and the bringing fused power through the firewall from the battery into the passenger side footwell area (behind the glove box).

Then you can make a junction to the power leads for your CB, and also have clean fused power for any other item that you want to add at a later date.

 

It's entirely possible that I mis-remembered the wire length on mine. I already had clean, fused power brought through the firewall for the controller unit for my Ipod, so I spliced into that. Or perhaps I used an unusual spot to come through the firewall - my spot is just inside to cowl on the passenger side. No drilling needed, but you had better have some good coat hanger skills

 

I just got the Cobra 75 yesterday It has 18 Gauge wire for the power lead and the ground. I haven't installed it yet. Where should I mount the cannon plug (disconnect)

 

10 or 12 gauge wire direct to the battery is what most people use for cb's and ham radios..

Very important to fuse close to the battery both pos and neg, in addition to the inline.
