I just got this exact setup from David at NorthRidge 4x4 last week. I have a $40 Midland hand held and it is a POS. People were always having to loan me their CBs as I couldn't even get out enough to talk to the Jeep immediately ahead or behind me on the trail. I paid about $180 for the whole shebang including the Cobra 75, 18' of coax, a 4' firestick, external speaker and a whole bunch of interesting adapters. This included shipping and he threw in a beanie and some stickers. I still have to do the install.

I ended up putting my external speaker just under my center console above my e-brake. It works pretty well there. Cobra 75 does the job for me.

I have sampled the tunnel mount option next to the shifter, but don't like it sitting there in the open, although CB's probably aren't as desirable as they once were to thieves. I looked at mounting it inside the console, but there is precious little storage in these things already. That is still my favorite possibility since the unit fits provided I drill a hole in the bottom for the antenna cable to come into it.

Then the antenna, the magnetic just didn't work too well on the Freedom top, so now the firestick. I was thinking of bumper mount, license plate holder, and spare tire. My problem is I want it to be somewhat effective, but can't be too high to go into the garage (especially when I install my 2.5" lift here soon).

Oh the frustrations of owning stuff......so many options.

Do you have lights on your windshield? I was thinking of mounting the antenna on there but getting it in the garage would be hard unless you take it off when you not wheeling.

Now that's an idea. I like lights on the windshield though. Maybe someone needs to come out with a mount that holds the lights and can hold the antenna on there as well.

I don't understand why you can get the components from Northridge cheaper than the package deal from Northridge???

I am going to try and make my own KC light brackets for my windshield and add a antenna place to it.If I do I'll try to post the pics.

Now that location I like. Though I think I may put it under the glovebox if I go with the Cobra, easier to hang the mic on a holder. Or maybe not...

Thanks,

This is why I'm looking. Mine is about 20 years old and has been in a half dozen vehicles, then stored in an uncooled garage (Florida humidity...). The last antenna I had was a magnet mount roof antenna that won't stick to my soft top. I tried firing it up and tuning it but it's all over the place.

I bought a Cobra 75 for another vehicle, and it was sweet. But the whole deal cost me $160 and I'm really only going to be using it for trail rides, and then not that often.

Plus it's Christmas, and I already emptied every poscket...

Jeff

Today I went ahead and ordered a Cobra 75, 18' of coax, a 4' firestick, external speaker and some mounting options (spring, quick connect and so on)

My first set up. Look forward to installing it! Merry Xmas to me!

Where did you order it from?
What did you pay?
Where are you going to mount the antenna?

Just wondering as I have to get mine installed before a January 10th ride.
