The 5300 is a commercial radio (as far as I know). While it may be possible to program non-commercial frequencies (amateur, GMRS), I doubt that it's type-accepted to do that.

Good luck.

I know what it is. The EFJ5300 is an APCO P25 compliant, VHF Land Mobile Radio capable of digital and analog communications in narrow and wide bands.

And that's what I use it for. I have a CB for wheeling and the EFJ for my fire/EMS work. Unfortunately, no one else around here has one and is familiar with programmin them.

EFJ's are also used by HAM guys. I was hoping there is a HAM on here who can help me out.

I have 2 versions of the EFJ PCConfig software. Both of them seen to talk to the radio, but never fully connect. If I try to Read the radio, i just get the hgourglass spinning for a long time. If I unolg the radio while it's doing that, I get a pop up saying it lost communications with the radio. But no mater how long I leave it they never see to talk to each other.

It might be a comm. port issue, although I confess I'm not that conversant with either the radio or the software. I've had similar issues with Kenwoods, where I just had to play around with the comm. ports. I recall it was a huge pain, but I finally got the computer to communicate with the radio.
