if its anything like the DRB3 you have to go through a bunch of menu's and then into sub menu's thats why you didnt see the radio stuff
for instance on the TJ if you wanted to update the computer for bigger tires using the DRB3
you had to go into the ABS menu even if the jeep didnt have ABS and then scroll through a bunch of sub menu's to do it
i completely understand you couldnt get to everything in 1 sitting with that star scan i hope you have the oportunity to use it a few more times

Cant do drl's unless I can get the salescode for it from Chrysler.
I was able to disable the headlight 90 second delay, which I'm glad about.
you can change the country code to keep the foglights on with highbeams which I did not do. We couldn't find anything about changing the radio so you can have the DVD video work while the jeep is in motion.

I asked him about the star mobile and he said it is capable of doing the same thing as a starscan except it needs a host computer for updates, you cannot load them onto the starmobile itself. He did say that you can purchase software and the wire and use a windows laptop as a starscan, which he is actually in the midst of setting up for himself.

The dealership he works for has a bunch of starscans, almost 1 per service tech.

Hope I was able to answer everyones questions.
Hey Racer, can you PM me and let me know where I can get the starscan tool work done. Thanks.

darn i wish I could get the 90 second headlight delay BACK on my jeep.. it worked the FIRST DAY i had my jeep and now doesnt work!

so the starscan doesnt have a list of salescodes for various options in it? I was hoping it did so that when I get to adding options into mine I would know the codes.. such as "automatic headlights" I wonder if there is a sales code or if it is always in packages for al lthe vehicles that get it.. but the module for it is a module on the CAN Bus that has the electronic eye in it.. same wityh smartbeam...

the thing i wonder though is wit hthe year of updates.. and just like the U-connect they had to log into dealerconnect.. is that year of updates give me an account on dealerconnect or if I buy my own am I missing some big part of the whole thing?

my dealer said he can get me a starmobile for $1800 however im trying to find out if that allows me to get to the internet downloads.. no one has been able to tell me yet whether ill be able to use it once I get it.. just like with my U-connect it wouldnt work until we went to the dealerconnect site.. and im afraid there is no way even after buying a starmobile / starscan that id have access to the dealerconnect site to be able to activate features..

if I could solve that piece of the puzzle my order would be in for one.

from the way he made it sound, the starmobile needs a wireless connection to a computer that is connected to dealer connect in order to work. And the starscan doe snot, and thats why it cost more.

There is the beauty (took pic from camera phone sorry)

after i was done with my limited playing with the tool, I started drinking..

after drinking about 7 beers I wanted to take it back out and try some more stuff. Got denied from THE MAN because it was pouring rain and you cant just connect it, you also have to connect the battery to a battery charger or jumper pack. he didnt want to risk getting it wet or dropped cause we were both drinking. apparently hes much more responsible than i am

hmm... are the new JKs OBD II or something different? I have hardware and software (for use with a laptop) for OBD I and it was very interesting playing with it. I know there is hardware and software for OBD II vehicles...maybe tuning the JK could be just as fun as tuning my Camaro is .

Is there anymore info about the software and cord for using a laptop as a starscan. That sounds like an option i would consider if the cost isn't too high.

both the starscan and the starmobile have to connect to dealerconnect in some cases.. im still trying to learn which... the starmobile just uses your own laptop as opposed to the starscan from what i understand.. the piece of the puzzle that I need to figure out is does purchasing my own unit get me an account onto dealerconnect.. dealerconnect is also where flash updates and such come from as well.... once I figure thta out I'll know whether its worth it for me to order one..

the wrangler is a form of OBD-II, OBD was pretty much disbanned afer 1995. just becuase you have a cbale to connect a laptop to an OBD-II diag connector doesnt mean you can get into the computer.. you would have to know what commands to send t othe computer and what format... I was *BIG* into OBD hacking years ago.. even to the point of rewriting my own chips for my late 80's GM cars.. but am not going to try with the Jeep.. Ill just buy the tool (I make more money then i did back then) ..but I need it to be useful before buy it.
