Default Help with Cobra 75 Install

Hey all! I have been looking through all the threads for the past week and have gotten a great deal of help from all of you. My kit should be getting here sometime this week and I am asking for your help.

I ordered the All in one kit from Cool Tech with the UltraMount. Thats the one that mounts onto the License Plate.

I am going to have alot of questions from here on in since this is my first time installing anything like this-hence why I decided to start the thread.

I want to start getting things ready today and make sure Im going to have everything I need and ready for when the kit gets here.

So here come the questions:

1. I have seen a few forum members with the Gate Mount that mounts by the spare tire and they have put the wiring through the hold where the brake light wires go. I am wondering where you guys are putting the wiring for the license plate mount?

2. Aside from the parts that come in the All in one kit, what other tools/parts will I be needing?

3. I have this link from another thread that gives steps on installing a CB and I plan on using this as a guideline for hooking the CB up to the battery. Is it a a good guideline for the Cobra 75?
Here is the link: http://project-jk.com/jeep-jk-write-...nd-model-1001z

Well these are a few of many questions to come I'm sure.

TIA Guys, Im going to appreciate the help!

Your all-in-one kit also includes the VersaMount (for the microphone) and the VersaMount comes with some good instructions for installation. When you have the center dash bezel pulled forward (via the VersaMount instructions), I would recommend you tap the power and ground from the wires going to the cigarette lighter... which are easy to get to with the bezel forward.
Thanks, that helps already. I ordered the Ultramount so I will be going through the taillight then. And what you are talking about here-going to the cigarette lighter- is that instead of going directly to the battery?

Yes, he would be talking about going to the lighter rather than the battery. This would be another option.

I routed my CB to the battery, so I can have the Jeep turned off and still use the CB. I can't help with the Cooltech mount option because I don't have it. And not to worry, once you get into it, the install will just be about taking your time and following your research.

Thanks, I think I am going to hook mine up to the battery also. Looking at that link it shows it step by step how to do it and I think I should be able to. Is there anything I should know about that battery? Like theres no chance of getting zapped or anything while I install it is there? Anything I have to do to that battery?

Don't touch both battery posts with anything metal at the same time or you'll get zapped. That's about it. When you run your wire through, tape it to the coat hanger. Once through, add a circular wire nut and connect it to the bolt that clams the wires to the battery.

Thanks BlackIce. So, I finally got the package in the mail today. I was pissed! All that came in the package was the Cobra 75 and the versa mount. I ordered the all in one kit on July 16. Supposed to include the Ultramount. Is it not? 24 bucks for shipping then another 33 at customs. CoolTech better call me back tomorrow. I want to know where my Ultramount is. I wanted this thing ready for this weekend!

I ordered the same kit for CoolTech except I got the gate mount. When they shipped the kit they showed it as shipping in two packages via FedEx. Tracking from FedEx showed both packages to arrive on Thursday (today). Much to my suprise FedEx showed up yesterday however, like you, they only had one package of the two...the one with the versamount and the CB. When I tracked the second package it still shows it to be delivered today.

I suspect you are in the same position. I can only assume that the second package is a larger box (due to the antenna) and got separated from the smaller box. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Maybe give CoolTech a call to confirm but I would guess the rest of the stuff will show up soon.

Yeah, I gave them a call and they said it was shipped seperatly. I didnt have any markings showing there were two, so I was wondering what was going on. And at least with the second one I dont have to pay customs, thats a plus side. Plus now I have it all!!!!! Cant wait to hook er up on Monday!

Well I finally got it all set up yesterday. And boy o boy does it look good!!!! I like how neat and out of the way the Cobra 75 is. And I cant stop looking in my side mirror at the antenna! All I have to do now is figure out how to tune it and hear people! The instructions dont really explain it to well.
