I did more or less the same thing: 3' firestik to a quick disconnect, to Arizona Rocky Road mount, cable through tailgate to Cobra WX ST. But I ran power directly to the battery.

I also have what seems like a high amount of whine or interference, the same sound across all channels, and I could only get the SWR down to about 2.5. The weather channels are clear as a bell. I tested the ground with a multimeter, from antenna to mount to tailgate to chassis... that doesn't seem to be the problem.

These are some of the challenges of tailgate mounts--grounding and antenna matching.

Also, in many of today's vehicles, loud HF environments are common.

We could rehash many of the solutions here, but it's complex and unnecessary. For extensive details on grounding/bonding/interference and tons more, check out k0bg.com

Is the Light strong enough to hold an antenna?

If you're referring to my mount, that is the mount on my tire carrier of my Highrock bumper.

I have the Cobra 38 WX ST handheld it allows me to connect with an adapter to an standard antenna and after reading this post I think I'm going for mounting a Firestik 4' antenna on the front fender lip under the vehicle's hood.
I found this: Jeep Wrangler CB Antenna Mounting Kit | Right Channel Radios
I would like to know has anybody used this setup and how do you like it?

Thanks!

I just got one today. It's a great fit and a beefy bracket. The fire ring is nifty.

Can you post a pic of your install? How hard was it to install?

I actually used a different bracket. I needed it to offset down 1 1/2" to fit in my garage. It's supposed to use bolts but I can't see how to pull the metal fender away from the body far enough to get a hand in there to put the nuts on. I'm gonna use screws and angle brackets. I'll post pics tomarrow.

Heres the pics. that piece of fender is real flimsy and that's why I added the little angle brackets. The back wall the angle brackets are screwed to is pretty stout and I would highly recommend attaching to it. I added weatherstripping to the bracket to save the paint. I like coming up with new ways to do things but the above the mirror clamp trick is really awesome. No drilling, no mirror interference, great place to view it, hear the speaker and a solid mount.

Just installed my antennae and mount. Hoping since its above the tire and above the roof a good bit reception should be good. I'll see on my trip back to SoCal talking to truckers.
