Default Highway CB Usage

I am considering getting the Cobra 75WXST for the JK. I understand CB usage on the trail. However, are CB's still used much on the highway? CB's used to be somewhat helpful, and entertaining, for cross country drives prior to satellite radio. Trying to decide if it is worth it to get another base power unit and magnetic mount antenna for our other car that gets most of the highway miles. Any advice on your experience would be appreciated.

I was driving through San Bernardino the other day and a trucker came on Channel 19 and was asking if anyone wanted to share a doobie with him!
It depends on where you are but there are plenty of truckers using the CB in CA.

I throw my antenna on every trip up snowboarding so I can listen to the truckers for any road conditions and accidents. I drive trucks for a living and a lot of times there isn't much chatter on channel 19 unless there is something ahead. The occasional conversations do happen though

Yep. CB's trump a radar detector almost every time.

What do you mean by "trump" like do they draw more attention to the police if you have a CB? I want to get one or do you mean like you get police location tips from semis?

Meaning, the truckers or other people will let you know where the cops are faster than your radar detector....

If you are looking for mobile communication take a look at HAM, getting a license is EASY and the HAM radios are much more powerful/usefull and can be had for as little as $38. In SoCal we have the "PapaSys" that links all of SoCal! Jeepers need to get away from CB's, the range is truly pathetic.

I agree. Everytime I get stuck in a traffic jam or see one up ahead on the highway I will turn my cb on and listen to the truckers. They sit above traffic and can see alot further ahead , I will either get off the highway if they say its bad or sit still and wait it out if they say its starting to move.
